And everything else that moves with the suspension that is wore can creak.
The way we inspected balljoints when I was an Auto Tech was to jack up the car, preload the suspension by jacking the lower control arm to a near normal angle, and then grab the inside and outside of the tire at the bottom (lower balljoint) and jerked in and out. This would reveal any slop in the balljoint.
DO NOT jack up the car up off the ground by the lower control arms. This can ruin the lower balljoint, according to Ford. It may not be bad right when you set the car down, or it may, but it will go bad in the near future.
Did the lowering kit include any polyurethane components? They are really hard and create knocks and creaks.
