Instead of getting a gt40 tube intake I descided to just go back to my street upper. To recap I have a 302 with a trickflow h/c/i, a yr ago I changed the street to a trackheat and lost hp/tq. My ? is before I put the street upper on would it be worth it to have it ported for a little extra flow/power. my buddy has a 2001 cobra N/A. he had his intake extrude honed and picked up 10hp. I know those intakes are way different but thats the only example I have. Let me know what ya think.

Thanks, Mark.

I did my cobra myself with a dremel and gasket matched it. I had it out already and the way I saw it, couldn't really hurt too bad.

Have you or anyone else heard of any power gains with a ported trickflow ?

I did a search for porting, got nothing. and to be honest the gasket between the upper and lower is good. I never had the lower off to check that gasket. Im just thinking while I have everything apart and off the car this winter I would try some things to make the most power I can (easily and cheeply). im at 290hp and 307tq right now and if I go back to my street upper, (and maybe port it) pluss the addition of the 1.72 roller rockers I will have done everything I can think of to get back my loss and get more hp/tq.

So im really just tring to find out if anyone has done this to trickflow.

Trickflow already spent a lot of time matching the flow of the upper intake to the lower intake and then to their heads. You may be able to gain some power by porting the street heat but, wouldn't that be flowing like a track heat?

Not really because the trackheat is a short runner and is SUPPOSED to improve hp on the upper end but loose a little down low. well I lost hp/tq across the whole rpm range when I switched. The street and trackheat have the same lower and I dont want to change that. Just do some tweeking to the upper if anyone thinks it will help and has any experience.

I'm sorry. I forgot the runner length was the big difference between the two. I googled it also and did not find any mention of anyone trying to port the streetheat either. I did find these two links of interest and may give you some more theory towards whether or not you should try porting your streetheat. They both talk more about runner length than porting of a long runner. One does mention resonant tuning and pulse length and the other does test extrude hone on a H.O. intake which is long runner also. Based on that test I would extrude hone a streetheat.

If you do the porting and have it dynoed, please post your results in this thread for me. I'm interested in what it would do. Thank you.

I will let you guys know the results. since im doing multiple things I may not know exactly what did what as far as numbers but i'll see what happens overall.

rz5.0, im not sure but since I have TF heads and there intake is it already port matched? also what kinda numbers are you putting down? did those larger heads make the difference?

Well, I spoke to a co. local to my area about extrude hone, and it does improve flow and he has seen gains. He also quoted me 795.00 so I guess im going to have to rely on the intake switch, the 1.72 roller rockers, and just keep on spraying. lol thats just out of my budget for 10hp. sorry wish I could be the ginnie pig and report some good feedback. But I will see if the 1.72 RR work and chime in after my retune.

I know its not cheap, engineering work never is but your right $800 could be better spent elsewhere. ;)
