On the 'OLD' PINTO I bought new in 1972, Side Exhaust looked good. The reason I say that is, the way the side body curved down to the bottom of the doors. Our SN-95's are more flat sided. But, most side exhaust still blend in well with the body, like Roush and Saleen. I owned a Pinto for over 22 years. NOT a Mustang, but a Pony nonetheless. I just threw a few pics of it's incarnations through all those years.

Huge fan of the Pinto! But more the Pinto wagon for me. Had a 73 wagon that I swapped a 1UZFE into. Still hoping to find a 72 with woodgrain sides and the rook rack.

Oh!! Boss!! I had a buddy that had a silver wagon in highschool with a red interior that was Cherry!! Loved that car! I always said if I couldn't find a mustang that I liked I would get a pinto and drop an 8.2 based small block Ford in it, like a 331 or a 347. I always thought that would be a cool build.. They always got a bad rap but I liked those rides, classic lines!!

Funny you say that. I LOVED the wagons too. But from '74 on they went with that Government Regulated Crash Test Bumper, which didn't look that good. We had a '73 Wagon we bought for 100.00. Looked rough, wood grain vinyl was GONE. But, boy it ran like top. Got it for 100.00 cause it wouldn't run long on new Fuel Pumps. I cracked up when I put in a new pump, and it quit running after just a few minutes. I pulled out the Pump Actuating Rod, and found someone had stuck in some soft metal rod that wore itself off at the end. Found a Factory one at a Junkyard for a Dollar, and it ran perfect after that. My wife and I LOVED that little BEATER!!DSC00400.JPG

Pinto’s were fiery death traps.

If you gotta pick an older small chassis Ford ya gotta go with the Maverick. They had style and weren’t known for bursting into flames when they got rear ended.

That's what happened to me. I couldn't get a Mustang. Cost and Insurance was crazy. But, I didn't feel cheated on that little Pony. Oh, even the Side Pipes made that 4 cyl sound like a V8. People would ask all the time if I put a 302 under the hood. It didn't have that FART BOX noise these imports have.
