I installed a new motor on the passenger window but now I have a new problem I cant figure out.The motor will roll the window up but it wont roll it down, using either one of the switchs.I can unplug the motor and use a 12 volt to roll it down which is how I checked to make sure the motor was good.
any suggestion on whats going on?could it be a ground issue or are both switchs bad?any advice on how and what to check for?I have a test light and a ohmmeter but I am clueless as to how to figure out whats going.
Thank you

Sounds like a switch. That's the exact same thing mine was doing. $10 switch and it was fixed. Really the only thing you're looking for is 12v to the switch. Which it should have i it's engaging at least one way

The wiring system that they used is called a 5-wire reversing polarity system. What that means is that there are no relays in the system, the switches do all the work which is good for ford as there are less parts in the system(cheaper) but the switches operate in a master/slave operation meaning if you loose contact at the switch/motor/anywhere in the system that it is a PIA to trouble shoot.

As he said its probably just the switch. You can actually pry them up from their mounts and swap them around to test them. By doing this you will probably move the problem switch to a new location and don't be surprised then if nothing suddenly works. If you put the bad switch in the master switch(drivers side) it should kill power to all functions of the switch(up and down) which will just narrow down if the switch is bad. If you swap them out and nothing changes then you have a bad connection somewhere in the system you will need to trace out.

I agree, it will be a switch. If you need some switches let me know, I have about 20 of them sitting in a box and depending on how fast you want them i can do $10 for 1, $15 for 2, $20 for 3 at your door in 2-3 days, or $7 for 1, $11 for 2, or $15 for 3 in 5-8 days

Update:Great advice on reversing the switch. My wife is so happy she can roll down her window now.I was able to check the master switch with a ohmeter today and it was bad keeping the rear windows from working.I was able to get a new one ordered from our parts dept so hopefully it will be in by the end of week and I can move on to the next project on the car.Thank you so much for the great advice
