this goes back a a couple of months now

i thought i had some bad u joints in my 95 gt so i ordered the ford racing shaft thinking i would upgrade while im fixing it. turns out it was the ebrake cable getting caught in the shaft because i had lowered the car (Sportlines), it would pull the cable back and forth and pinch it on the tunnel when i went from forward to reverse or vice versa. i bent the ebrake cable bracket out of the way so it would clear and installed the new shaft anyway, (the old shaft was fine)
well i have less than 500 kilometers on the car since i put the new shaft in, and it in the past 2 weeks has started clunking really bad when started forward or reverse (with a little umph) it sounds like something is hitting the driveshaft or severly worn out u-joints. so i took the old shaft that i now know is good and put it back in the car and the noise is gone.
there is no visable marks where anything is hitting...on the car and aluminum shaft and the ujoints on the ford racing shaft are still good

any ideas what it could be, im stumped

i at least can drive my car again but it sucks being out 300 bucks

nope checked the suspension and bolts were my first guess too

I have read usually when the DS rubs on the e-brake bracket is due to the upper control arms are worn

Are the OEM steel shaft and the aluminum shaft the same outer diameter? I have often wondered this...

GT

also I cannot confirm first hand: the alumnium DS is slightly larger than the stocker

I used to hear clunking noise also after I replaced my clutch. It turned out I didnt use loc-tite on the driveshaft bolts and they had came lose causing the shaft to move back and forth.

The AL DS is larger then the factory. My ford racing one is larger then the factory 95's. It rubs a little on the E brake brackets, not suprisingly because the upper control arms and bushings are worn out i'm sure.

The FRPP D/S is larger. There is no way u-joints are going to be bad in 500 km's. As some one else mentioned, ensure that the bolts on the rear flange are tight. Did you remove the pinion snubber and dog bone? If you did you should replace the pinion snubber.

changed the snubber and dogbone, also moved ebrake cable bracket because it was rubbing, definately not a rubbing sound, more of a clank and quite loud aswell, and only as i move from a stop forward or reverse
