Hey guys, what does a car do when the fuel pump is going out?

Also, what does these cars do when the timing is jumping b/c of a bad tentioner or if the coil pack is going bad / wires?

90% of the time, if a 4.6 jumps timing by about 4 teeth, it'll bend a valve.. and cause havoc. Bad coil would result in a missfire and.. fuel pump would result in a stutter.. basically lack of fuel would cause the car to sputter and jerk, in my experience anyway

ok well the car is kinda jittering. I had a wire go bad one time and it did it "Kinda" but only at high rpm... now its kinda stuttering at lower rpm and then really bad at up top... kinda sounds like a miss but at the lower rpm it jerks when i'm going like 45 and its turning around 1200 rpms... you can feel it a lot. I'm sure it does it when i'm going faster just don't feel it as much since charlotte has shitty highways. But when i gas it is sounds like its missing really bad ... i wish i could make the sound on the forum lol.

What does this sound like

And if i have to get a pump for this damn thing what should i get ? focus, aviator? its a 98 gt.... what a bastard.

i know what your talking about man. Best bet is to check out the plugs and wires.. if its still going i'd check out the fuel pressure.. no sense in swapping a pump if you dont have to. Do you smell gas really bad when you get on it or it sits there and idles? could be running rich and fouling the plugs as well

well i can smell it... I put plugs in it thinking that was it. The wires are about 5 months old. I had that problem before kinda and it was the wires breaking down. But i dought that ford wires will break down that fast exspecially since i had the stock ones for like 100k. Anyway, how do you check the fuel pressure on a 98 ? It doesn't have a regulator? also, the thing is getting bad gas milage.

we do have a fuel pressure regulator, its on the passanger side fuel rail. its part of the rail and cant be removed, so thats why they only sell them for 96/97 models.
you can check the fuel pressure by looking up a pressure reader (cant remember what its called) on the shrader valve on the passanger side fuel rail (or the drivers side, but im pretty sure its on the passanger side). hook it up there and it will tell you if its getting enough pressure.

when was the last time you changed the fuel filter? if its been awhile, it could be that its dirty and/or clogged and not letting enough gas go thru.

or it could also be bad gas. go fill up with some 91/3 octane from 76 or mobil.

Do you run MIL's? if you do, mine ran rich when i had MIL's in it. For some reason it did, never quite understood it. I got a tuner and it went away.. sounds to me like your running to rich.. i'd clean the IAC and check out the EGR valve

I changed the fuel filter to a fram unit like 3/4 weeks ago , along with the last plugs that i just pulled out the other day.

I've put about 3/4 tanks in the car since it started, at three different stations one of which in a different state. I don't think its the gas.

Yea i've been running my mil's and o/r prochamber for about a year or more now. never caused any problems... I cleaned the MAF sensor and the IAT and i think i did the IAC like 3/4 weeks ago when i did the old plugs and fuel filter :) i'm a worker lol. I put the IAC on the list like every 6/9 k miles.

o2 is new. The other is old but if it was bad it would throw the code just like the other. I'm going to talk to a ford tec and see.. he is pretty in the know. he told me i had a cracked plug one time and hit it right on the head.

if its just missing on one cylinder then you could always pull one plug wire at a time and see how different the idle changes.
one good way of testing wires.
with my cadillac sts it was shaking pretty good at idle and it had a loss of power.. so i changed the plugs and wires and it went away.

if its shaking and sputtering a lot then i would check fuel pressures.
is it hard to start? if so is it harder when its cold or hot?

if all of those are fine then it'll have something to do with electrical. i'm not too familiar with the sensors on the car yet so i cant help you there.. haha
but good luck!
