I got a remote for my car and have checked the numbers and it is one that will work. Does anyone know how to program it to work with my car? TIA

Crap! I found what needed to be done when I bought a new-to-me one. Let me try & re-find it.

Remember that all other fobs have to be present when programming.

1. Cycle the ign from off to on 8 times ending in the on position.

At this point your locks will cycle ( they will lock and then unlock )

2. Press and hold the lock and unlock buttons at the same time on the 1st remote you want to program.

The locks will cycle ( they will lock and then unlock ) letting you know that it was
accepted.

3. Now quickly press and hold at the same time the lock and unlock buttons on the second remote.

Again the locks will cycle letting you know it was accepted.

4. Shut the ignition off now and the locks will cycle one last time.

Hope that's it! If not, I'll hunt again for it.

that key on and off thing is only for the newer cars, in our old cars you have to find the lil plug thing in the trunk (drivers side behind the carpet) and you make the connection with a paper clip or something, then you hit a button on every remote you want to program, then remove the paper clip. should be good.

the key on/off was for the dealer installed code alarm/keyless units. not all the cars have them

what? Never heard that. All the new Fords I've ever programed used the key on and off 8 time routine, and I've done a few.

the off/on programming is for the 96-98 and the clip method is for 94-95.

again, the 8 times was for a code alarm piece that could have been installed at any dealership as a factory add on. I could show you my code alarm remote to show that they are the exact same thing as the factory pieces if you need me too.

I installed car audio for almost 15 yrs, my first alarm was a code alarm that I installed in my 94 gt when it was new. I have seen the ammature wiring that they do at the stealerships when they added these in, and corrected a few. Like I said I could take some pics of my standard code alarm remote that I installed, and you would say "OMG That looks exactly like the ones that they use to have at the dealerships that said ford, but it says code?!".

trust me.........

no it's not. i programmed my keyless entry fob in my 1998 using the clip in the trunk panel

the clip method is for 94-98

the 8 times method is used for 99-09, and possibly 2010-11

yes, you are right.

i didnt think it sounded right when i was typing it, sorry for the confusion.

That doesn't mean the newer Fords don't come from the factory with that kind of key fob programming technique.

ahhh that is what I said... They install those units for a number of years as a dealer add on that was installed at the dealership and of course charge out the ass for. It could have the keyless unit or it could have the add-on code alarm part.

My 98 has the little plug in the trunk. You trip that and then hit the lock/unlock button.
I had to do it once after disconnecting my battery.
