8.8 is two inches longer so you will have to deal with that by cutting or by using a different off set wheel. you will also have to cut all the 8.8 brackets off and make / weld on spring perches since the 8" uses leaf springs. for a cruiser this is a lot of work for no gain

For most cruisers its really about the good rather then the function. I have a tremec in my car, don't have a drag strip, road course, or any race tracks around. Pretty useless when I could have swapped a T5 in for less but it is what it is.

good rather then the function?

i assume you think that the 8" is weak? a 8" can be made as strong as a 9" with parts from currie and will be lighter, fit tighter, and would have the correct pinion angle / instant center since the mounting points would be in the factory location not welded on by some dude in the driveway not using a jig. there is nothing wrong with a 8".

I swould like a 3.73 gear ratio. Not looking to launch it.so the 8 is more financially practical. I think ill tackle the body work 1st but ik am entertaining good ideas.

I have a 65 resto-mod coupe with a posi 8" in it. I know what they can take. Never said one bad thing about them. I also own my 70 mach 1 with a built 9". Each have pros and cons. What I meant to say earlier is its about the "goods" rather then complete use of whatever your doing to it. Very few cars take any particular part to there potential. Most of the modifying that gets done on a car these days is simply for the wow factor, or just something to do. Just depends on what you want to do with the car.

8" would be a 3.80. ratech makes a complete bearing / race kit for it for less then 100 bucks. if you want a strong lightweight carrier / center section look at the currie alumi8

66 in my sig makes a tad shy of 400 through a 8", my 93 has made over 800 and has nothing fancy in the 8.8. i am well aware of needs vs wants

I had an 82 coupe race car a couple years ago that was running just a plain jane 8.8 with mini spool and 4.56's. Stock axles. I never had a problem with it either. I was never knocking any of the rear ends. Unless its the F-body style 10 bolts, you rarely see a factory rear end exploding on any domestic cars.

No problem. It was highly confusing when I changed the axle setup around and saw the different lengths. Threw me off
