So pretty cool I got my Pypes X-pipe in the mail on Friday. Reading that the Xpipe frees up a lot of power I couldnt wait to get it installed. :thumb: Unfortunatley it had to wait till today (Sunday). So after figuring out all the bolts, nuts, and whatnot from the stock system I finally got that heavy hunk-o-junk off of the car.
Got the tubes mounted to the headers and the x-pipe slipped on and then.....

bad part.

No bolts to hold the clamps together from the x to the catback. Looked all over. Not in the box not on the ground. The stock pipe has studs that were pretty frozen so those werent coming out. I read the instructions and it said I would need a "hardware kit". Huh? Ok, so it gives me which bolts and nuts to buy if I wanted to pick them up from a hardware store, but still. Shouldnt this come with the pipe? I dunno but since the auto stores are closed now and thats my only ride availiable at the moment it kinda screwed me. Practice run I guess. So I get to put everything back to the way it was.

But there was nowhere to put the smog pump line in the new x-pipe. Where is that suppost to go now? I read people were taking it out, but from which point? I dont want the hard line banging on the cross member or anything.

Oh, and I ordered the kit with the catylitic convertors. My mistake thinking they came installed. As it turns out, I have to take some measurments and cut the x-pipe myself to put the cats in. The cats are a DIY add on.
Good news I guess I can try it without them and see how loud it is. If I dont like it then I can add the cats. Bad news..I have to take them off again.

.02 :) lol

Uh, that is really stupid. I'd be calling them first thing tomorrow and reading them the riot act. Of course check the advertisement at the place you bought them from but that is total crap how they want you to DIY your cats on there. Honestly if it was me and the pipe was advertised as "catted" then I would demand either a fully assembled pipe exchanged for the garbage they sent you and they pay shipping, or a full refund and they pay shipping. I've heard alot of horror stories about Pypes stuff fitting like ass and just dumb crap like this that NO other company makes you deal with.

Ill put it on without the cats and see how I like em. If its way too loud then Ill get them on. If I dont think I need them I will give them a call to see about returning them amd get some cashola in the pocket.
Just wasnt ready for that. Like you said, I was expecting a system that was ready for me to install out of the box.

Yeah every catted pipe I've ever had comes ready to go right out of the box. The only thing I've ever had to do was to clamp the crossover together on a shorty H pipe.

If you run exhaust through the pipes I doubt they will take them back. You should cover all your bases first, look to see if the pipes were supposed to be catted or not. If the instructions state that you should get their hardware kit with it then that is something that should have been read and understood before starting (Who reads instructions?).

Good luck.

Instructions say IF A HARDWARE KIT IS NEEDED....

The cats come in a seperate box. I wouldnt try returning the X-pipe itself. Im saying if I like it without the cats, I would try and return them. The instructions tell you where to cut the pipe for installation of the cats. Seems as if the X-pipe is the same no matter which kit you buy but the addition of the cats is an add-on that you have to fit in yourself.

I don't really know if every exhaust will fit perfectly on every car. My pypes isn't bad, but the fact that it's a 2 piece is kinda a pain in the ass. And either the pipes are really loud, or there's still a leak because the damn bottom on my car is louder then the mufflers.

Heh. How are you "suppost" to make it through life that way?

Anyway ... my rule of thumb is to read through any installation instructions before actually doing the install.

As far as clearing anything such as a starter my pypes fit perfect. I personally chose pypes because my brother put a BBK x-pipe on his 99GT and they fit like complete dogs ass... It leads me to believe not everything is perfect...
