okay, a couple months ago right before winter i went ahead and clay barred my car and waxed it with some old turtle wax my dad had in his garage and it turned out great, but about a month later, i was already seeing swirls, so i rewaxed it with some turtle wax meant for black cars, it lasted a little bit longer and now i'm hearing of people claying then polishing?(ive always talking about polishing as waxing) then waxing.

what should i do? i don't want to order anything offline, i want to be able to go to advance or napa to get it. so like is there a special way to do it? like clay, then use a polish then wax it, then seal it? and if so what are some good brands for it?

Polishing removes swirls and brings a deeper gloss to the paint.... to polish you need a Buffer or D/A polisher like a Porter Cable.....or you can use ALOT of elbow grease which will leave you in pain.

Lazer Red, Black, Dark Blue, Sonic Blue, and DSG need to be polish CONSTANTLY..... this keeps that deep close.

....This is how i get those crisp lines in pictures

well the one meant for black cars i used was actually a polish. What's the diff between a polish and a wax?

I do all of it by hand, so I'm planning on claying, then i guess polish/waxing it after wards? idk...

the polish is to remove swirl marks and fine scratches, the wax is the protective sealer on top of that.

for hand, you have to put a lot more effort into it.
there are also some combo polish waxes, I'd check with Juztang on that one.

wax does 2 thing

#1. Protects the Paint
#2. Hide Swirls and light Scratches.

A polish usually has an abrasive in it. Different polishes have different levels of abrasive. There are also wax with abrasives but those are for remove scratches. Polishes have very light Abrasives that polish the paint removing light imperfections.

Invest in a Buffer if you can, it make life alot easier and give better results. If you dont wanna spend the money for a Porter Cable then pic of one of the standard buffers from anywhere.

Suriously, i couldnt imagine life without my porter cable

how much are those things? I've always waxed/polished by hand, but I've wanted to get a porter cable. Then again, I've heard stories of people "burning" the paint or something and that kinda scares me

you have to try pretty hard to burn your paint with an orbital.

the PC's are just over 100 bucks.

you can get a cheapo from auto zone or something for like 30 bucks. try it out. :)

i think i will. it seems like it would take a lot of labor out of the job. I'll try the cheapo and then if I like it, I might get a PC later down the road if I get good with it or something.
