I've got a buddy of mine who's got a '97 GT, in Aztec gold... he's on a budget, but he's looking for a little more pick me up. what should he do. what mods should he start with? the car is bone stock... i did notice today that the intake has an aluminum crossover, isn't that a PI intake that has that, and not the older one, that would come stock on the '97? still got the original plugs and wires, and even the stock air filter... like i said, he's limited on his funding(until he sells his truck) where would you guys start? i was thinking maybe a JLT CAI, a tune up, cause God only knows when the last one was... a set of equal length headers, mid pipe, and aftercat(right now he's running straight pipes, no mufflers) he's also looking for a set of rims, he just doesn't know what he likes, so he doesn't really know what to look for. any reccomendations? we lowered it today, dropped it 2", you can see pics on my myspace page (www.myspace.com/insanemotorsportz just click on pics, and find "Jakes '97 GT") I'm all ears, what would you guys do... :dunno:

tune-up first, then gears. Then intake/exhaust. Tune up is HUGE

Yeah tune first. But I'd go with a good sounding exhaust after that. I'd do just an K&N airfilter with the air silencer delete. I wouldnt waste money on a intake

Do the tune up.. Then save up for PI swap/force induction... Simple bolt-ons are really pointless for the NPI... I know, I have one.. :'( :'(

So, the big question is, do I have my modulars right? the intake he has now, with the aluminum crossover, thats a PI intake, is it not?

spark plugs is a big YES

adding an aftermarket catback and midpipe didnt do much for my stock 97 GT.

Hmmm... I'll have to have him come by tomorrow, so i can check it out... I know his engine bay is clean as shit... well, compared to mine. lol... any specific plug he should use, or just go with the Motorsport plugs? what do they need to be gapped to? Also, is the TB on the '04 GT, any larger or smaller than the Throttle Body on the '97 GT?

No on the TB, they are all the same. TB's, plenum's, CAI's, Exhaust, all wasted on a NPI (except the mid-pipe if he has six cat's like I did). Bang for your buck, PI cam's can be had for 100 buck's, he'd need bolt's wich are like 10 buck's, and it's an easy 20 rwhp gain. Again with the intake, if it's not a PI, 100-150, and there's another 10 rwhp(both these thing's feel like alot more though, since the thing dies about abour 4500).

He wants to find a set of PI heads, and an intake(i'll have to double check his to see if it's the replacement, or if it's the PI...) but he wants to go with a set of Comp cams over the PI cams... he does still have the stock H-pipe with the 6 cats, i was noticing that and commenting on it yesterday when we had the car picked up for the springs. when his truck is sold, he wants rims, PI heads, comp cams and pi intake, might as well get him some headers while we're at it... so full exhuast, PI heads, and intake with new cams... and a set of rear gears... what gears should he go with? he's got a 5 spd...

I'm guessing he's not on much of a budget because this stuff starts to add up quick. :dunno:

Don't waste a dime on bolt-ons. Wait until you have enough cash to supercharge it.

Ebay is a good place to start, then your local salvage yards and classifieds.
