I reinstalled my Cats lastnight, Was letting it Idle to check for leaks, there where no leaks, but after it was at idle for about 10 mins the cats started to turn red. They are stock still and I have alot of work on the topend of the car to include bigger injectors (30 lbers). when the car it driving they do not get as hot.I checked the timing w/spout out, its at 14 BTDC, thats where I set it, F/P is at 39 with Vac off. looked at the cats before I installed them, didnt looked clogged. Havent lost power eather. Was told That the more Mods you run, the Hotter the car is gonna run thats why there hotter then normal. Just wanted to know if this is normal.

Thanks
Greg

putting more mods on the car wont make it run hotter. Better parts improve airflow resulting in more HP. A better flowing part does not add more heat. The only time yo can bolt on a part and introduce more heat to the engine is with a turbo or a supercharger and thats mostly under the hood heat. As far as your issue you said the cats were not clogged but it sounds like they are???

If they turn red you need new ones most likely. Did you let the stock cats sit out for a while?? I know mine sat out for 6 months and got all sorts of clogged. I then found a High Flow Catted H pipe and sold my Stock cats for $$$.

Start Looking for a new midpipe. It will be cheaper then having them replaced.

power loss is an understatement. Mine were clogged so bad that i replaced everything relating to fuel b/c i thought that was the problem. Did a 2nd tune up in 6 months, replaced IAC, TPS, checked the MAF. Everything

Well when driving you have the airflow that helps cool them down also. I would say to replace them.
