So I am bored at work (what else is new? :lame:). I was just looking around and PI cams are pretty darn cheap. I did some searching through this board and found a thread that implied you do not need to remove the intake manifold to install the cams. Is that correct? Also about how much work is it to install the PI cams compared to doing the PI intake swap? I did the PI Intake swap and I didn't think it was too bad..the only thing that held me up was not having all the parts I needed when I started.

Its not tough. I believe you do have to have the Intake Manifold off though. I used an Anderson Ford Tool and was able to do it by myself in no time. Good Luck

yeah, its not tough at all. taking my time and taking pics, i think i knocked it out in about 4-5 hours, with a few breaks inbetween. i used the ford tool instead of the anderson tool because ive heard too many horror stories about the anderson version. as for taking the intake manifold off, no, you dont have to take it off, but taking off the fuel rails/injectors makes it easier to manuver the valve cover.

How much harder is it to install the heads w/ cams rather than just the cams?

There is no need to remove the intake to swap cams. Depending if you have bolt on cam sprockets or press on cam sprockets you may have to remove the front timing cover but intake doesn't have to come off.

quite a bit. the cam swap took me about 4 hours taking my time, cleaning up everything i could get access to, the entire PI head swap took me about 20 hours and i didnt spend as much time cleaning parts up, i just wanted to get it done.

Yea good to know that is what I figured because I know you would have to pretty much strip it down to the shortblock. I wasn't too thrilled about the jump in compression anyway.

funny, that little bump in the c/r is what finally convinced me to get the heads. to me, its 100% worth it
