I love my extremely loud exhaust right now. Its a borla x-pipe with flowmaster mufflers, and it is pretty damn loud. The one problem is that I plan to drive this car for the next few years, and next year I will begin an internship at Morgan Stanley Investment Bank. This is basically my dream job and I really do not want to show up there on the first day with a car that is so loud it attracts attention from everyone. Well let me rephrase that, I would like to do that, but for my careers sake I dont think its a wise move.

So what Im thinking is that I can keep the car looking as it is, and just change the exhaust to something more quiet. What good exhaust systems like this do you guys know of? I dont have catalylic converters so Im guessing Im gonna have to buy some. Im not going to do this modification until the last possible minute.

As long as your not doing burnouts and nonsence shit you will be fine with the loud exhaust IMO. Its something ur work will hear at most 4 times a day. Getting there, lavein for lunch, coming back form lunch, and going home.

yup, either keep it quiet and calm, or if you really want to, either get yourself another factory h-pipe and reinstall that, or get a factory catback and install that.

that would be the best way to quiet it down.

if you dont want to quiet it down that much, like everyone says, get a catted x pipe.

I work at a bank here in the IT department and they can hear my car when I start it or when I pull in. I don't ever get on it when I'm near the bank and I just let her roll into the parking spot. Everyone seems to like my car.
You will be fine bud.

Career schmear... I say keep the loud exhaust and take it easy in the parking lot. I learned a while ago that you have to be true to yourself in your career - don't compromise too much - let them get to know you and you're work and they'll respect you. Thats why I'm often seen out at lunch ripping parts off my car for weight reduction or out back porting a throttle body or some such thing. Of course, I didnt do those things on my first day :)

So I work in the Financial Aid Department at Concorde College (Private School) and my car is pretty much as loud as it can get with SLP Loudmouth 1s and an o/r X-pipe. Everyone knows when I show up late because they hear me pull up into the parking lot. Other than that downside, nobody at work judges me or frowns upon me because of my excessively loud mustang. But if you are still concerned about it, just get a catted x-pipe.

thanks for the replys. Yeah Im not to worried about it, Ill decide what im going to do after I start there but I wanted to at least know what my options were.

The front reserved parking spots at this place are filled with several ferraris, a mazerati, and a few range rovers (what ive seen during my interviews). Ill be working as a Jr partner with two other senior brokers. One drives a land rover the other a SL 500. I am not exactly sure what the atmosphere is going to be like but I know that I worked really hard to get this position and it is a very coveted position so I am taking every possible precaution.

We'll see when the time comes, just wanted to know to there were some good options. I want to keep my exhaust the way it is though if possible. If the time comes and I want to quiet it just a bit, would adding converters do the trick?

I'd keep what you have man. Not worth choking your car up, even if it's going to be your DD. Just shift early and keep the revvs low, it'll be quiet enough.

dude i had the same problem as you.
forget the catted x .. I now have a magnaflow catted X and
borla (regular) cat-back which is supposed to be quiet...
but the car is still loud. Just a bit less then the off road
h-pipe and flows that i used to have.
I suggest you try out a silencer that u can screw in,
screw out of your exhaust tips. they make em in different
diameters. I know a lot of ricers use them, don't know if
it will work on a mustang. but hey it's an idea. good luck

I have borla cat back and mine are quiet unless you stomp on it. Flows Magnaflows Bassani's and the like all seem loud to me. The borla turbo muffler cat back system sounds toned and pretty quiet compared to my buddies cars. The borla stingers are loud though.

When I lived in California, I was a Purchasing Director for a rather large homebuilder. Executive type job, office in a high rise, etc. I was rather pointedly told, buy a new car. Period, no if and's or but's about it. I frequently met with high end clients, people who gave us millions, and vice versa, it was simply unnacceptable for me to cruise around in a ten year old Ford to meet client's getting out of 120k Benz's and what not.

So I told them, if you wanna make the payment, I'll get the car. And that's how I got my G35 :hammer:

If you are going to be meeting with clients like that, I would suggest getting another car. I'm sure someone will get all butt hurt over it, but to those types of people, a lowly Ford=shitpile, period.
