I was just cleaning the inside of the car like I do every other weekend. Turned on the car, a/c, and began to work. About 20 mins later the car began over heating reaching 235 I shut it down. Thought it was my water pump and was glad it happened here..right? Hah well no it wasn't the pump. After the overheat I had all this shit in my reservoir so I took it out and cleaned it. Added some water and put everything back together. Also I un-hooked the batt because it was next to the overflowing rad cap.
Started it and let it warm up again, drove it around the neighborhood and watched the temp gauge, never overheated again. It gets to 220 at Idle and the fan comes on and drastically cools it down 20deg. I don't know what happened but it overheated and spilled coolant everywhere.
It sounds to me like the thermo failed and locked up, but its brand new OEM and thermos should fail open not closed. I'm at a loss all I can do is watch it and take it easy on it. It needs a coolant flush badly. Only thing left to do concerning the cooling system is the water pump.
Has this happened to anyone? Ideas On why this happened?
