I don't know if this is the best place for this question... but when I was driving last night my rear diff went and was grinding and finally locked up when I got it off the highway. When I looked under my car smoke was coming out from my diff cover. After a flatbed tow... now its in my driveway and I need to fix it. I have a new set of 3.73 gears I was looking to put in anyway so I guess now is a time. I called my parts guy and he said to just buy a used one b/c I don't wanna **** with the diff. Some parts guy huh?! Anyway I need it fixed asap so I can get to work. Anyone EXACTLY what I'll need to swap out?! I was gonna get a limited slip diff with the install kit, but do I need an install kit with bearings or idi what I need and can use some help!!!!

When my axle housing got bent after someone hit me, I picked up a rear end for $50 and then had a set of 4.10s installed in it. Shops will charge a lot less for a gear installation if they have the rear out of the car already, and you don't have to tear your car apart until the rear end is all finished.

Yea, I'm leaning more toward a new rear end if I can get one for under $200. That way I can rebuild the diff that just blew up on me and take my time with it. After this whole ordeal I have also just thought about fixing the diff them selling the car. I have about $1300 worth of parts I was gonna put into the car when I got a little warmer, but now I'm thinking about selling the car or parting it out and selling the parts I got for it and get my money back and buy a new car. Almost brings me to tears about getting rid of the mustang though. Been through so much with it

Let it sit for a few day man! I know what its like to have something go wrong that makes you want to sell it, but you will look back at it in a few days and love it again.
