Hey I was getting my Gears done but my mechanic said it was making noises while driving, But he shimmed it like 3 times and it still made noise. You guys have any ideas, are the gears faulty or something? Because my mechanic has a 97 cobra and he installed 3.73 and had no problem.
I’d appreciate any advice.

Did they get installed and then removed? What’s the story on those gears you are showing in the pictures? Did you get new or used gears installed?

I got them brand new from LMR. And got them installed from my dad’s friend the “mechanic” and he didn’t test drive it. He told my told my dad to drive it, and he did and he started hearing noises. Then he brought it back to my mechanic, to fix it and he shimmed it 3 times and test drive it in each time and it still made noises.

And then he removed the gears? Or the noisy gears are still installed?

Iinteresting. Can you post pictures of the pattern on the ring gear, both sides of the tooth?

How were the gears making noise? All the time, only on Accel, only on decel?

Are the current gears quiet?

Usually when you hear whining right off the bat it's because it's all assembled way too tight.

Is that a chunk of metal I see between the pinion bearing and the pinion teeth?

Describe the noises? Clunking? Howl/whining? When did it make the noise? All the time? Decel? Accel?
Also what's this circled in blue?
Did the guy clean the housing or use new bearings on old races?? I see 3 complete bearings there and a race. Under the seal in the box. Post a picture of what that bearings race looks like?

Yea, that thing circled in blue was what I was talking about. That seriously looks like a chunk of metal.

those bearings look like the diff housing was never cleaned out and he reused old races with new bearings. Or didn't prelude them or something goofy.

Or everything was setup way too tight and the case hardening of the bearings gave up, but that's just a guess. I'm not there, so...
