I recently noticed a large amount of gear oil leaking from the right side of my rear end. Not sure where exactly is leaking out of. Has anyone dealt with this issue before? Any advise will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Gasket is probably shot. Do you lift up the rear of your car often? Just loosen up the bolts from the bottom and work your way up, let all the fluid drain, scrape the gasket off, replace and refill.
Do you mean from the pumpkin in the middle or the end of the axles? It's probably an axle seal if it's from behind the wheel. Either way it sounds like you're going to have to open your pumpkin up.
It's not the gasket Im pretty sure the oil is coming from the end of the axle because only one side is leaking, do you guys think just an axle seal will fix the problem?
I just did this job today and everything went smoothly until I went to put the e-brake return spring back on and couldn't get the thing back where it needed to be. I tried every tool in my box that could work including compressing it with huge channel locks and zip tying in place. Still couldn't get it in place. Any insight or a special tool that you know of, I would do anything at this point. Thanks
