is $700 a good price to install a set of 4.10s? install only.
also, would this be a good time to go to full posi?

edit: $600 not $700. thats labor only i still have to buy gears, the rebuild kit, and fluid

700 seems hi to me. but I've never had them done either.
What do you mean "full posi).
you have a cobra and cobra's andgt's have track loc standard. (both wheels spin)
If yours don't then the rear needs rebuilt.
BTW "posi" is a chevy term.

all my muscle car friends are chevy guys... theyve gotten into my head lol
my brake stands leave paralells but my donuts are "one wheel wonders" in the words of my mechanic. and it pisses me off when i goose it around corners and i slide for 10 inches until it starts to hop on me

I'm guessing because there's a big difference in traction in a slide and not in a brake stand. But, that's just a guess.

my guess is that when doing a burnout, an equal amount of weight is distributed between sides. and when doing a donut, the body roll distributes the weight to the outside tire, making the inside tire easiest to spin and overpowers your worn out T-lok, essentially creating an open diff in that situation.

Which way are you doing your donuts? I'd say if both spin to the left and only one spins to the right then it's not uncommon, next time u do a donut though get both spinning straight first and then turn the wheel.

You should be paying 700 for parts and labor. Labor shouldnt be any more than about 400 alone. Get a second opinion cuz ur getting ripped off.

X2. I paid 400 for gear install by itself. I supplied the gears and they did the install, fluid and gasket. If I wanted to stay FRPP, I could have gotten the whole job for 500 even.

Also while your in there have them rebuild the Trac lock also. You might as well that's what i did. That Trac lock kit you see if the same that is in a 03-04 cobra diff.

I paid $400 in labor to have FRPP 4.10, motive bearing kit and trac loc rebuild kit installed. I supplied the parts.

$700 dollars is freakin' ridiculous. I payed $450 for labor, last Aug. . I supplied all the parts, and had everything replaced, including the cover. Plus they welded the axle tubes and cut off the quad shock brackets. I'd shop around

There is a place here that will do it for you for 300 and they supply the gears and install them. Throw in another 200 or less and im sure they will rebuild the tlok for you also.

Thats an insane amount to do a gear swap. When I had my friends shop do my rear axles limited slip differential and 3.73's the bill was $300.00. Had another friend that did my current 4.10's and a few minor other things while he had it there and it was $250. You shouldn't be paying more then $300-$350 for a gear swap. If they are charging you over $400 your getting ripped off and go somewhere else or try and find someone else that can do them.

I bet you there also giving you used gears. I know a guy that is all he uses is Used gears and says he hasn't had any complaints over 5 yrs. I would rather buy something new and just have piece of mind.

I agree my Labor portion of my rebuild was only $300 that was with the with having the Trac lock rebuilt with the Carbon disc.
