Hey Mustang Fans,
I had my trunk torn apart and all the retainers are gone. So I need new ones to get the molded carpet around the inside of the trunk to connect. Does anyone know what size retainers they are? I know they are the Christmas tree type, but I don't know size. I need like 6 or 8 of them. I also need the one for the rear plastic plate that trunk latch is around. It has four holes in it.

I also need the ones the trunk floor carpet attaches to the back end of the rear seats, I think there is 4 larger sized retainers, does anyone know where to get these and the size they are?

What about Dorman? Do they make them in the size I need?

I do have the t-type wind nut retainers already...

Any help is great..I appreciate it.

If all else fails...I can head to a junkyard and do some investigation.

Yes it does suck..I spent a whole hour at the Ford Dealer and they couldn't figure out what they were..complete waste of time..SIGH! I have been wanting to get the trunk back in order for awhile now..

I actually DON'T need the plastic plate for the rear..just the retainers..thanks for checking sn95GT!

have you tried any ole' parts store? I would also check an ace hardware, they usually have stuff like that. the pins aren't anything special, just need to be the right size.

I was just going to say that, any parts store has these fasteners in a few different sizes as well as variety packs. As long as it fits the hole they will work, don't need to be an exact size.

I have tried a few parts stores in my area and they didn't have the press kind. So I am thinking maybe a place that does interior work? Maybe they have some. You know like an upholstery shop? would that be a good idea?

If so any parts store has those in the Dorman/HELP! area labelled "trim retainers"

Go to an upholstery shop if you want, be prepared to overpay also

Yes Joekid...those are the kind I am refering too. Believe me, I thought it should be easy to get these somewhere...but I have had a hell of time getting the right size ones.

Ok, you got me thinking about it so much I pulled one of the ones off from around my trunk latch. It was a 3/8" with a 3/4" head, I then went into my garage workbench and had a box that as bought at Advance Auto labelled "Trim retainers- Dodge/Chrysler" and it fit fine

I'd say if you can get anything that has approx a 3/4" head you will be fine

So I went to 3 more auto stores this last week and -> wait for it....NOTHING!...but then wait...my 4th try ( after running around all over ) was a success. I got a few that might work. So I will be hopefully getting the carpet back in order soon. Good Grief!

Just a heads up.. lowes sells these type of things in their hardware isle with the nuts and bolts... several different sizes and styles that are used all over the interior for our cars.

I replaced my tail lights and had to pull apart the interior panels and broke/lost more than half of them. Ended up going to Lowes and Home Depot. Now the pins are a mix of Ford. GM and Toyota. LOL. Panels are in pretty snug though!
