How is it supposed to be held on in a 1997? The one in my car will fly off the metal mount on the windshield if I take off hard from a stop, and if I hit a large pothole will move on the mount.

it's getting really old.

If there's just something wrong with my mirror's attachment clasp, what other mirrors are compatible? I'd love to have an auto-dimming mirror with outside temp display, I bet the ford explorer/expedition mirrors had options like that, and it would just be a matter of following a wiring schematic to make it work.

they are all held on with the same clasp and there should be a retianing clip that holds them on.

I am adding an overhead consol from an explorer to mine so that I wll gain the digital compass and temp monitor. My radar detector already tells the outside temp so I am going to hack it and it will now tell me the temp of my amp. It also has a handy place to store the garage door opener as well as dome light so I will cover the stock ones when I recover the headliner so it doesn't look wierd that there are two dome lights.

While most cars tighten down using an allen head the Mustang is a little different. If the coupes are the same as the hardtop the mirror should have a metal tab around the outside locking it in place.

As for the mirrors most Explorers and Expys had the temp/compass in either the overhead console or in the dash

I went with on that has blue tooth conectivity and shows the number/name on the mirror when it rings. SUper convinient.

mine does the same thing. i just push it down as hard as i can. lasts for a while then i can see the angle start to change and i just do it again.

ttocs, is this on a vert or coupe?

interesting, I found an aftermarket mirror similar to that on ephail for about $140. The bluetooth mirrors that I find all snap on over the stock mirror, which would obviously just make my problem of the mirror flying off when I punch it 100x worse...

there's gotta be something I can get from a junkyard for $10 that will work from another ford.

Good luck finding one in a yard. Doent need to be a Ford though, majority of the OEM mirrors are made by donnelly, cipa or gentek anyway.

All mirrors pretty much just need power, ground and the outside temp sensor hookups (verts also need wiring for the map lights)

i couldn't find any pics on your cardomain. have any of the mirror? how did you run the wires?

Thinking about it I don't think I ever did post pics of it, dunno why. Wires were just rant up the A-pillars with wire ties and I have a piece called a phoenix gol DD10 that supplies bother contant and switched power to it while fusing both appropriatly. It came with a rear back up camera in the style of a lipstick camera. The bad point of these cameras is that you need to drill a 2" whole in the car to mount them. I didn't want to cut into the metal in the back end so I ordered a camera that is built into the rear license plate mount. Once I got the kit and installed the rear frame camera, I realized that I didn't mind putting a whole in an easil replaced piece of plastic like my front chin spoiiler. I mounted it in the chin spoiler and mounted a switch so that I could activate either camera with a flip of it and now I use the one up front for parking around curbs to prevent damage to the spoiler, or on dips where I am afraid the spoiler will scrape and have found it a super handy tool which has kept the chin spoiler scratch free. I will try and remember to take some pics of it all when I hopefully do my head/cam install his weekend.

it was all off of ebay. I am not huge on the clip-on style but in this case the form followed the function. I really got the irror/camera because I am always afraid of backing of my dog that just loves to stay out all day. While I am sure that she is smart enough to stay out of the way I would just never live with myself if I hurt her somehow so it seemed like cheap insurance for me.
