What all is on our cars for emissions? Like I know the egr and the smog pump(idk what else) are on there but idk what exactly either does and If I took them off would it cause shit to go wrong, and get CELs? I was thinking about having it tuned at steigemeiers and while there having them take off all the emissions bs and tune it out, would it be worth it?

It is illegal to remove the emission controls on your car. Your tuner most likely will not do it, he could get in trouble. Also you will never pass state inspection.

Its all up to you but here are the things that I can think emission wise to remove.....
1. Cats
2. EGR
3. Charcoal Canister
.....I cant really think about anything else. The cats you can remove and have your tuner turn the rear O2's off and if you remove the EGR your tuner can just turn that off to. The Charcoal canister I found out that your engine actually uses that vacuum hose as part of the intake learning system, so what I did was remove the whole charcoal system and routed the hose from the back of the upper intake into the intake tube somewhere between the MAF and TB so that it thinks its still there but you can remove the weight from the front fender. Thats totally up to you, unless your trying to getting ever pound not needed out of the car I wouldn't bother with the canister. But the EGR being removed cleans up the engine bay in my opinion and removing the cats you just have to be aware that if they look underneath your car for inspection you better have some sort of cat either working or just the case welded on to satisfy the "government'.....lol

Modular 4.6 Motors DO NOT have smog Pumps.
We only really have the PCV Valve, Cats, and EGR.
1: If you wanna remove the PCV Set-up then just replace the whole unit with a breather. This wont give you anymore power.
2: Removing the EGR wont give you anymore power and will just mess up the drivability of your car.
3: If you dont care about the cops and want No CATS then buy a O/R Mid-Pipe. UPR's is CHEAP and best bang for the buck. This will give you more power and a better exhaust sound.

Out in cali we now have special Police Specifically for Busting cars that dont pass emissions. In Cali its a 2,500 Fine per CAT Missing.
$2,500x6=$15,000!!!

Cats are easy to remove and put back on because its just a pipe swap..... but dont bother F*cking with the EGR... It will just do more bad then good.

I thought on 98's we had 4 cats 2 resonator and 2 mufflers not 6 cats and 2 mufflers? I've been pulled over twice and both times the cop didn't look under my car or anything, maybe because my car is stockly quiet

anything else?parts of ohio they dont require a state inspection (least the part i was from) but if the cop feels like being anal enough they had them lil sniffer things they could stick in the tail pipe and test to see if you were running cats or not... im now in va and have had a couple friends get busted for not running cats.. just depends on how anal that cop wants to be that day...

I have been running no Cats in Cali (SMOG NAZI STATE) for 4 years now.... never had a problem.... it i can get away with it, then you can too.
The trick to no cats is when you see a cop just be keep the car Quiet.... samething if you have tinted windows....if you see a cop, throw em down
