Well, i was at the junkyard today and i got the upper off, but couldn't get the lower off (didn't have time to finish). how do you get the lower intake off an explorer engine? better yet, how do you get the lower and heads off? Just wanting some more insight before i go early tomorrow morning. I hope its still there!

as long as you got the bolts out, and of course the obvious, fuel rails, etc disconected, it will come off. youll have to pry on it a little bit though cause its going to be on there good cause of the gaskets/sealer. heads undo the manifolds, loosen the rocker arm bolts to where you can get the rods out and remove them. make sure that you keep each rod with its correct location, a ziplock bag works good, numbered, and undo the head studs. PITA but it will come off

:TY: for the help! I'm really excited to start modding my car now!

got the intake off, but still couldn't get the heads. Those head bolts are a pia. I'm going back one last time for them tomorrow (the place is half an hour away) and if i dont get them then, i'll give up. could someone clear something up for me though, 96 explorer heads ARE GT40, NOT Gt40p, correct? didn't even think about that when i was there, just now.

Hope everything turned out ok for you. I'm using a ported explorer lower and it is an amazing piece. I had tom moss do my portwork and he is THE person to have port your explorer intake.

yah, i would do that, but i don't have the money to have it ported by someone. I think i'll just port it myself, using his website and going from there.

also, update on the heads...i didn't get them yet. the place is supposed to close at 6 and they turn their registers off at 5:30, so when i went to pay i couldn't and have to pick them up tomorrow morning. if anyone knows anyone wanting some real gt40s, tell me!
