I have heard through several people I know and a couple shops that richmond gears are known for a loud gear whine when installed. Is this true? Should I look at a different set?

Hello,

I know some people who got this kind of problems, it can be the gear or a bad installation.

IMO it's better to install a Ford Racing gear and try to find a good place to do the job.

+1 they are known for whinning loud

motive are lighter than ffrp gears, but both are the best ones on the market.

I have owned 4 Mustangs and every single car has had FRPP. Every one has been perfect - no whine.

Ford Racing is the only one I use. FRPP makes some expensive products but they work and are #1 in quality.

I guess a lot of you didn't know or realize that Richmond Gear made gears for FRPP up until about a year ago. They don't have the contract anymore, Motive does. You'll be able to tell if it's a Richmond piece by the serial number on the gear, the last character will be an "R." There are still a bunch of unused gear sets out there and they are easier to install than anything I've ever dealt with. The stoxk shims have worked fine in all of about one installation I'm done or even heard of. I can't hear gear whine over my exhaust or my SC anyway.

It has been my experience, that no matter the brand, if you go over a 3.73 ratio, it will whine/be noisy no matter what......
