Hey guys, I've been looking for a good ring and pinion set up for my '95 5-speed gt. I'm trying to decide what ratio to go with, I feel 4.10's would be too much, maybe 3.73 or 3.55's?? any opinions would be great!!
oh also on americanmuscle.com they have kits with speed calib. where you just plug n play. Would that be worth getting for a 95?

still trying to figure out when I can get some pictures on here of my pride N' joy

As for what gear's to get, what kind of driving do you do? Is this your main ride? Does it travel 50 miles one way everyday? I mean if mileage and keeping RPM down are important to you, then you'll want a mild gear. If it's a rare driver, or doesn't hit the freeway daily for long period's you can get more aggressive.

FYI, 4.10's will put you at around 3k for 80 mph.

As for a speedcal on your 95, can't answer that one, sorry.

I have 3:73's in my 97. I know you have a 5.0 not a 4.6. But I drive mine every day and have no problems. I still get 20mpg if I am a good boy. I would definately not go higher than 3:73 if you drive yours daily. If mine were a 5.0 I would have went with 3:55's.

As for the speedo, you can get a speedo drive gear for the trans and swap it. Ford Motorsport has them up to 3:73 gears. Anything lower than that you need to do a speed cal.

The car will be my "summer toy", so i guess on occasion i will be on the freeways, etc.
so if 4.10's will put me at 3k around 80 what would 3.73's be like? and as far as the difference between the two for acceleration?
and for the speed calib.(plug n play) i was just wondering if it would work for the 95 instead of buying the speed gear..

I think 3.73's will suit you well. RPM isn't that much lower with 3.73's, but with a 5.0, first get's kinda worthless with 4.10's.

BTW the gear is about as much effort to swap as the speedcal is to plug in, and it cost's like 15 dollar's.

Really... I was under the impression i had to take the tranny off and go huntin' . Is there just one type of speed gear for the 3.73's? or does it all depend on how many teeth are on my OEM?

thanks for the input on the ring and pinion...
one other thing, would i be better off having a shop put them in or could I ( i have some mech. exp.), because i was told by a few different ppl that you have to set them just right otherwise i would have future problems down the road....

The speedo gear goes in the tranny on the right rear. You will see the w3ires for the speedo sensor where it goes in. If I remember right the speedo gear for 3:73's is red.

Let the pro's do the gear swap. It is a pain in the neck to do. It is not like a 9 inch where you can just remove the pumpkin and work on the bench.

Nope, it's like one 10mm bolt to get at the gear, and a clip.

As for setting them up, it's an advanced project. Not sure on your ability, but you would need micrometer's, a dial indicator, and patience to do it three or four times before the pattern is right. The tool's, if you don't have them already, will cost more than install labor, and you will probably only change gear's once.
