Well, I took the mach back out today and I used it to commute to school last year (45 min drive on a highway under construction each way) and it has road tar EVERYWHERE on it, back bumper, doors, front end etc etc! I'm looking for any good detailing pros as to what would be the best product/method to tackle this? I do have a clay bar left over from my old car, but I could borrow my brother's bug and tar remover, but there is tar all over the car and using that might be a hassle. Is it best just to do a clay bar/wax of the car to get it looking good again? It's also all over my rear chrome rims, I really f*cking hate road work now and will be avoiding it at all costs!!!

Yeahh... stay away from fresh chip-sealed roads, we do that for a business and it's a major PITA to get off our work trucks. On our works trucks we just use gasoline, but i'm not sure how great of an idea that would be on your nice paint and chrome lol. I'd also be afraid of the claybar just chipping your paint. I guess it all depends on the size of the tar spots on your car.

I thought clay was for smaller stuff. Start pushing the tar around and I would be afraid to do more harm then good.

The front end paint is pretty badly stoned chipped, I'm getting it repainted sometime, but from the firewall back it's great. I might try some bug and tar, but my brother is being an asshole, might just go and buy some and test it out. I saw that gas thing too, I've spilled gas on the paint when filling up before and it didn't do anything, but I'm leaving that as a last resort.

Gas won't instantly do anything to your paint, I'm just assuming it's not the greatest option. Might want to check out Chemical Guys' line up, or one of the other detailing companies and see what they have too. The bug and tar remover works pretty well, but it might take you a while to get it all off.

I don't work tomorrow, so I'm changing my c/c plates to stock since the aftermarket ones the guy had installed rattle like a mofo lol. I don't mind taking time, Detailing my car is really relaxing anyways :).

I don't understand you guys that enjoy detailing. I love a clean car, but dang it, I can't stand detailing for more than a couple hours.

Tar is petrolium based and that why gas works at taking it off. Bug and tar remover will work too if your skeered.
It won't hurt your paint but it will strip all of the wax off of it. Just rewax after your done.

Just a follow up, took me an hour, but I got all the tar off, was not fun! Did realize how badly chipped the front end is though, the hood looks terrible! Definetly getting a clear car bra on it when I get the front resprayed...

Mineral Spirits paint thinner. yes, you read that right. I was a detailer for a little more than 4 years and that stuff works amazing. And no it doesn't harm your paint.
