ive been reading around about people doing rustoleum paint jobs, roll of, tons of sanding/buffing and it seems to look ok. my car is majorly sun faded, chipped, nicked, EVERYWHERE. anyone ever do it or see one done in real life? im leaning towards it since paint jobs are wayyy more than my car is worth

if i do decide to go for it i would do the same color or as close as i can get (rio red) to avoid having to redo door jams, etc

I think I would recomend the early shieb $300 special before that. Its alot of work to get the rattle cans to look good honestly. I have painted more then a few pieces but they were always small and even then took alot of time sanding/buffing to get them to look good. Save your time and money up and do it right...

If you already have a compressor, the cost of a cheap gun and paint would be close to the price of enough spray bombs to do a car. Even if it has flaws it will look better than the rattle cans.

black is the easiest? Ahhhh I beg to differ........ If you don't have black perfectly straight the reflections it throws(in a good paint job) will show every low/high spot.

The real question is how good do you want it and how much do you want to rub/sand it? If you want it really nice then plan on rubbin it alot, LIKE ALOT ALOT(1000 -1500-2000?). If you don't give a crap, well then you don't give a crap so I would imagine you would not be on here asking.

great for a diy job or great all around? Is it a show-quality job or a 10 footer that is good from far, but far from good? Idunno there are some places to save a few buchs and do it yourself but paint is just too important to me.

It buffed out great super glossy when it was done.. When I was installing my cage my buddy dropped the roll bar on my right rear quarter panel and trunk lid so the car has been sprayed satin black now.. But when it was done it was flawless but took me 8 months to do to my standards too..

^That's way different from what I was thinking haha.

If you have a garage you probably could get a compressor and a cheap spray gun like what Framda said and buy some paint, sand and spray the car yourself. Just tape it up really good. My uncle got some inexpensive spray gun and he paints stuff himself. Though they are smaller things like a spoiler or bumper.

Not saying your wrong.. But if you have time and patience then anything can look good.. Here are mine..

The satin black beginning..

The old 2 tone..

All rolled on.. But like I said took 8 months to paint the way I liked it.. Many high density rollers, paint trays, and hours wet sanding later.. But I wasn't able to spray the paint at the time that was the whole reason for it to be done this way..

My point exactly, yours looks good but for half of that time, patience, money, and hours wet sanding, and none of the high density rollers and paint trays you could have done it the conventional and easier way.

Auto paint is one of those things that you have to do a couple of times and then it gets easier. You can only watch videos, read books and talk about riding a bike until you actually have to do it, then you wonder why you were so intimidated all along. Get a gun, tape, paper and paint and go for it.

so it looks OK, but not perfect. takes a ton of work and never will be the same. but i dont have $2500 laying around for a full paint job. worth more than my car.
