The main thing that drew me to Lexus over BMW, Audi and Mercedes was the reliability record. I was literally scared away from the other brands after reading consumer reviews about how often the cars were in the shop. Just remember RWD doesn't mean snow travel is impossible, but depending how much snow you get it could be a huge pain in the bum. and if you're looking for mid-high miles you can pick one up for less than 10k, mid teens should get you a lower mileage one expecially if you're lookin at 02/03 range.

I agree Onyx with everything you said. I've always been in love with bmw even during the crappy 80's. (Well actually that's where it started, lol cause I'm not that old.) Lexus being a glorified Toyota they do build a great car. It's the creature comforts and name of BMW that pull me to it. It's not really the design anymore since the former lead bmw designer now designs for Lexus. Just before I'm done with school, I'm selling all of my cars (Not the wifes, I do want to live) and then on the day I get that magic "smarty pants" paper, I'm ordering a 325i or a used 535i or M3 coupe. I guess it will depend on if I ever have to take out any big student loans which so far have been minimal.

Go BMW, you wont regret it.

I hear a lot that Lexus is a glorified Toyota but in reality the cars actually share very little. If you compare a Lexus to a comparable Toyota there's really no comparison, and I don't think you'll find much in a BMW that you won't find in a Lexus for similar price. Toyotas are FWD based while every Lexus but the ES is RWD based, they don't share platforms like Ford and Lincoln/Mercury do.
