I have a 95 vert. CAI,gears, h-pipe exhaust. How much do these chips cost and how many H.P;s do you gain?

only get one if you're getting a dyno tune. also with your list of mods i wouldn't use money on a dyno tune yet.

agreed. Once you do more mods, like Heads or cam or whatever, you'll need a tune. Once you need a tune, thats when you get a chip.

Actually a "tune" reflashes the ECU, negating any need for a chip.
No one really uses those mail order chips anymore.

OBD I cars can't be flashed like an OBD II (96+) car can

+1. My car is "tuned" and it has a "chip" The Anderson PMS and Tweecer are self tuners that tune the ECU w/ out a chip but if you dont go that route then you have to get a chip

so whats the jet performance chip in my car doing?

hard telling. Compared to a custom dyno tune +chip probably not much.

I'll post what I did in another thread on this same topic.

Look at it this way.

Say your car has a mechanical problem and you have two choices of trying to fix it. Explain what the problem is to the guy fixing it through e-mail and on the phone and having him order you the parts w/ out even looking at the car or taking the the car to a mechanic and having him see what the car is doing wrong and basing how to fix it from there.

Same thing w/ the chip. Having the car on the dyno the tuner can see exactly what is going on and what to tweek. A mail order tune will always be on the Conservative side b/c no mail order tuner will send you chip that will cause you to blow head gaskets or hurt your engine. With that said you could be leaving more on the table but on the dyno you can see how much more timing the car will take. With a mail order chip you could be leaving out 2-3* of timing and lots of HP on the table.

The only time a mail order chip is useful to a bolt on car is when you are running long tube headers. Since they move the O2's further back it tends to read a lean condition at idle when every thing is fine. The puter will richen up the fuel mixture to compensate for it to heat the O2's back up (wasting fuel). Also our cars (if I remember correctly) pull timing during shifts for better pollution control, that can be removed via a chip. You can also change your fan settings if you like.
Those small reasons are not enough *to me* to pay for a dyno secession, a mail order chip from a reputable shop can do that with out seeing the car.

dyno tune is the only way to go. mail order tunes will run you really rich and lose timing like venom351r said
