Serious Starting Issue

First off, I have a '99 Mustang GT. Back in January, I cranked the stang up rolled 5 feet and it stalled out with no noises or anything and left me stranded about an hour away from home, but got it towed back to the house... Since then, it has just sat there.

In January it was cold, and we happened to go through several cold snaps so I figured it was either aftermarket alarm, battery, or starter problems. So the other day I went to crank it up after sitting up and battery was dead. I charged it over night, then proceeded to crank it up. I had lights and everything but noticed my radio is now blown out. I went to crank and I got one bump from the motor as if trying to roll over and couldn't.

So I got the battery tested at a local auto store, and when I hooked it back up, it rolled over almost 1 complete rotation and died. The battery test showed the battery was good and went through the full charge, but from the DIAG screen on the odometer, noticed the battery was not holding the charge and was steadily losing its charge.

Took the battery out again, and went and bought a new battery with 600 CCA, and 700 CA... when I went to crank it up, the motor rolled over SLOWLY with peaks where it almost wanted to start and then periods where it pretty much just sat there.

Checked the DIAG screen again, and then was running a DTC 9356 Code -- Ignition Run Circuit Open. I checked all my cables and lines, I haven't found any shorts or lose connected. Called Ford (ugh), and they suggested (besides bringing it in), that it could be starter, alternator, ignition switch, fuel pump, spark plugs, coil packs, and the list goes on.

So this morning I went outside, disconnected the battery for 30 minutes or so to try to see if the code was clear. It did. Went to crank her up, and low and behold I'm back to the 1 bump and won't go any further than that. I called Ford back, told them I noticed that when trying to crank up the car and had the key twisted all the way to start, the theft light was solid, and then asked him if possibly it was the PATS system. When I continued telling him about the past, he said an expedition was in the shop yesterday for a similar problem, and it was the alternator and the fuel pump going out.

Has anyone.... ever had anything similar to this happen or know of anyone? I have done countless hours of research on this and no one has anything.

What I'm thinking it could be --
1)Bad Ignition switch and not recognizing my key there for the solid light when trying to start up

2)Bad or faulty starter or solenoid from where the dreaded startings were coming from and now the single hit and that's it

3)Pats system being activated and spending 600 bucks for new keys and reprogramming of the ecu

Any help would be extremely appreciated

I had a Pats issue once and it wouldn't even crank 1 time when it was triggered so I don't think that is the issue. Are you getting spark to the engine at all?

the very first attempt to get it to start the car just about started, had a small rumble of it cranking up and instead of hitting the gas to feed it some, i let go of the ignition and ever since can't get it that far.... multiple amounts of people have said replace the starter and think that's the issue.... also have been told if PATS was the issue, i'd have 0 response at all... not even the thud when i try to crank it

have you taken your starter out to test it?

when mine went out it would just click once, then do nothing after that.

perhaps the insides of your starter are all jumbbled-up and its not allowing it to give enough force to sart the engine?

sounds like the starter is trashed and now drawing WAY more load than intended.

when trying to crank for an extended period of time does the battery positive wire get hot??

check all your grounds first since they will cause the same problem but usually thats caused by a starter going bad drawing a TON of amps.

We traced all grounds and the whole electrical system. Ford wanted to give me a run around and just wanted me to bring the car in. Our plan was buy a new starter Friday anyway haha. So hopefully this will do the trick and I can enjoy the tones and speed of my car
