a buddy of mine bought a 91 SHO about 5 months ago. I went to take him over to pick it up, but I didnt have much interest in "looking at" the car myself, aside from the quick walk-around. he was certain that it was a great car, and the owner insisted that it was perfect besides the things you could physically see, like small spots of surface rust, and a tie rod and serpentine belt that he mentioned needed replacing.
the owner "gave us the excuse" that he couldnt have it taken to look at because the car wasnt insured, and wasnt willing to take the risk of it being driven on the road while the title was under his name. And eventhough I told my buddy I would call AAA and have them tow the car (since I have free towing) to the shop, they both insisted that it wasnt necessary.
a month and a half later, he has it up on the lift at his work (he's a detail manager, not a mechanic), just to find out it had over $2000 worth of repairs/damage to the front end alone, including ball joints, control arms, tie rods, radiator and supports, among many other things... fortunately for him, he found a guy on Craigslist that had the majority of replacement stuff to repair the car himself, and he was able to trade it to him for a perfectly functional 96 (98?) SHO.
