I been thinking about tinting my tail lights on my car, since I am wanting to go all black on it except for the wheels.
I live in Texas, so is it legal? also should I just go with a flat finish or with a glossy flinish. If you have any pics of a 96'+ Mustang with tinted or blacked out tails that would be great...

Or if you could do a photochop on my car of what it would look like, that would be awesome too!

I thought it changed the look of my back end, don't forget you will want to do the reflectors on the side as well as the center tail light. The flat look you see people doing is when they use the VHT And do not clear over it. Clear will help it last much longer mine are going on 3 yrs and still look new.

Never saw the thread. I say go for it, and use vht. sand down with 400 or so, clean them up real good. spray until desired darkness, light coats each time. make sure you do both equally. then spray with a clear.

Or if you are legit mix black in with clear and use a real sprayer and then sand and buff as needed. but most just do ^^

I always wanted to tint mine, but cops in NJ hassle you pretty good from what my friend says. Though he drives an X6 that's murdered, so I don't know it just begs for attention.

But if the cops around you aren't strict about it, I say go for it. I think tint on the tails looks good.

mixed clear like normal put a couple of drops of black paint( does not take alot) stirred it prepped the tails with gray scothch brite. cleaned them off. layed down 3 wet coats and let them flash in between coats. mixed regular clear and shot a couple coats for extra shyne. they darkened up a little overnight. looks great during the day they look dark as hell and at night u can't tell they are smoked.

I will be the lone decenter on this, although you already did it.

I do like the look of tinted tails, BUT it is a safety issue with me. I have driven behind guys with tinted tails. During the day you can barely see that the brake lights come on, especially if the sun is at your back. I almost rear ended Ram360's car driving on the Pa. Turnpike because I could not see his brake lights come on.

This is my opinion, and safety always comes first.

Concerning the safety issue I would say if its weekend car then fine. But like ^ said for DD I wouldn't do it, especially here in Houston.

My tails aren't tinted enough to be a safety issue. I do have the honeycomb stickers which makes them look darker, however light shines through just fine.
