Well my car is down due to not having compression in #5 cylinder. I have to pull the head off to check everything out. I was told the motor blew (oil pressure tanked and #8 was "fried") by the 2ed owner (I'm the 4th owner) and was rebuilt with all the stock stuff. So I've been wanting to pull the motor and do a simple 306 just to make sure the bottom end is done right. I also have been wanting to do a fox TB swap and get some fox valve covers. So I was thinking "What if I just get a Fox 5.0 and swap it in?!?" So what are the differences between the Fox 5.0 and the SN95 5.0???

I know I'd have to get a CAI, throttle/cruise cables, IAT and TPS sensors (and the other stuff that I'd have to do on the TB swap). I already have a Fox MAF on the car (came on there when I got it), and I have some March billet alternator/PS brackets (that apparently don't fit our 5.0's). Would they work with the Fox 5.0?? I'd also reuse my TFS Street Burner upper and lower with the #24 injectors and removing the SN95 EGR elbow, TFS1 cam & TFS TW heads. If I got a complete 5.0 from a bone yard what would I need to get it to work??

This was just an idea I had and am trying to figure out if it would work without a ton of complications. If it will end up being way more hassle then help I won't do it and not do the Fox TB swap either and either just pull the head and see if I can fix it then rebuild my motor later or just pull my motor, make it a 306 and stick it back in. I'm new to Fords and fuel injection so if this sounds really stupid then never mind me.

The valve covers, intake (no elbow), and front accys are different, along with the timing chain cover. the heater hose tubing may be different as well, cant remember. the good news is all this stuff is easily swapped, it bolts right up. So, in short, I would get a 5.0 junk yard engine, put your parts on it from you SN95 and pop it in the car.

Yeah I was looking at those. They have cast aluminum pistons and I was going to do forged flattop pistons (as I have nitrous). Highly tempting though if I decide to remove the spray.

Your looking for a mid 1991 and earlier block, it will say "TRW" on the bottom of the piston. the 5.0 HO engines had these pistons. They are still plentiful in the junk yards too. I have this setup in my car now, seems to be pretty durable. Tho, ive known 3 cars personally that make 400+rwhp with a blower and havent blown up yet, and they are all running cast pistons.

Not worried about it coming with forged pistons as I have picked out some forged flat top pistons with a .030 overbore that will bump my compression ratio to about 10.5:1 to 11:1 that I wanted to stick in it the new motor. Cast and hyper pistons aren't bad. I had hyper pistons in a '74 Nova that I used to drag race. I just want a bit of extra insurance with having the nitrous. I also don't want low compression either. It's not daily driven so I don't care about having to spend some extra money at the pump for premium.

Sweet. I love seeing these car get used for what they were made for. I don't get to race mine as much as I'd like. Namely because of money and the fact that Road America is a 3 hour drive away and the nearest drag strip is 2 hours away but it's absolute garbage and you gotta travel about 3.5 hours away to get to the good tracks. =( I used to do a lot of street racing (all in industrial parks and back roads with no side streets or driveways) when I was younger.

I think we all street raced when we were younger, lol. Im fortunate, there are 4 tracks within a few hours, and a drag strip practically in my back yard. you need to move to Denver, dude...... lol .

And run my already slow car in the mile high altitude. No thanks. lol I'm almost perfectly in the middle of 3 drag strips and almost in the middle of 3 road courses. It's just that they are far away.

i helpped put a fox 306 into my friends 95 v6. changed the timing cover and put a new water pump on, then all the sn95 brackets and belt system. we swapped the fox upper intake for his 95 gt upper and throttle body. its an easy swap and works flawlessly

My car has a 88GT shortblock in it... but its soon to get a Boss 347 stroker whenever I can get the block done.
