Of all the heat extracting hoods i like this one the best. Too bad i cant buy it like this. Curious how it would look with the Cobra nostrils. Do you know if its actually functional? Has your temperature dropped? Got a link to a build thread?

It was actually functional as i cut the hole in the hood so that it was placed directly over thr belts and behind the electric fan. This maximizes heat extraction from the radiator.
I no longer own the car, have a GT500 now, and never had much of a build log for it. Car now has an IRS and a terminator swap in the hands of the current owner.

Mavisky i would like to know how did the gt 500 vent hold up when it rained did the motor get all wet i would like to do this 
Impressive. I want to buy the seats from a GT500 (grabber blue stripes for thee win) and put them in a 96-98 Cobra. This vent could be a nice addition. Did you cut it yourself? I know replacements are common but still takes some cantaloupes to cut your own hood. No body shop at all? How did you secure the vent? I didnt realize you could buy just the vent lol. Does it come with brackets and such?

"Functional Hoods" they're not as functional as the product descriptions lead on. They're mostly for looks.
the cowl hood is functional, if you have cowl induction air does not leave the engine bay at the base of the windscreen, it enters it. so if you are looking to extract heat from the engine bay, do not use a cowl hood.
When the car is stopped, the air will vent out the cowl. When the car is going fast, the air will back up against the windshield and push in the cowl. So when you park air will vent up and out, but it won't be much air. Some air is a lot better than no air, though. If you have heat soak issues, you might want to fix it some other way.

Cut it myself. Used the scoop as a template. The feont of the scoop has a lip that i slid in between the two layers of the hood, the back has a single tiny stud that i used with some washers, and then secured the rest with double sideded 3M tape.
If you find a pic of the back side of the vent online removed from the car you will see what im tslking about, but i don't thibk i have one.

I don't think this heat extractor will work with the cobra hood. The GT hood is basically flat through the center of the hood where as the Cobra has a small hump in the middle. I would definately find out where that hump ends before cutting it up
I imagine if i go to a website that sells hoods and ask them do heat extractors work they would say "yes, ours blows the best and our competitors suck!"
Not really bad options if you like the look of her. ...the hood i mean.
I just Like how the GT500 vent looks on the guys car. If you cut into your own hood tho It would be cool for it to have a functional aspect. Curious if funneling air through your radiator works and by how much. They put it on the Ford GT

I can personally testify on behalf of radiator boxing and adding a radiator air scoop. I just haven't installed my Tiger Racing Hood.I imagine if i go to a website that sells hoods and ask them do heat extractors work they would say "yes, ours blows the best and our competitors suck!"

Have any pics of your radiator boxing? What radiator are you using? I don't have a whole lot of room to work with on my 95 because of the supercharger crank pulley. I'm using a stock parts store radiator and it's pretty tight in there., I don't think an aftermarket 2 core would fit.

They've been "boxing"'radiators for 100 years but I wonder if the stock grill opening is big enough to make boxing worth while? For anyone that doesn't have a radiator air deflector, they help but mine doesn't anymore since I added the Mach chin spoiler. But really it kinda all boils down to this especially for a street car. If you want an an aftermarket look, get an aftermarket hood, if you have an aftermarket intake that won't clear the stock hood, get a cowl. If your car is running hot it's not the hood and as far as a performance gain by reducing the engine bay temp by a tad, it's probably not worth the amount one spends having the hood painted. I think that rule pretty much applies in all areas of exterior mods as far as street cars go, you know like big wings and body kits. A fiberglass hood might weigh less but the weight difference isn't enough to make a difference in the speed dept. Wings and body kits add weight.

It is a second generation Mishimoto. It seems pretty thin compared to the EBay 3 row that was is in my parts car. I can try and snap some pictures. Not a bunch of room to get a worth while angle to show anything. It is just thin sheet metal that goes across the top of the radiator to the upper core support, then two pieces on the sides and held on by MacGyver. I just looked at the areas where air could take the path of least resistance and go around the radiator. And the radiator scoop resembles something you would see on a 1979 TransAm Mustang. I actually got crap for it while in TTB, they tried to make me take like 7 points for aero. Removing the stock fan works at speed by removing a restriction behind the radiator. I don't sit around and stop on track so I knew it wouldn't be an issue. Hood wise, www.AJHartmanracing.com makes a nice carbon fiber hood vent that is going to be my second hood choice after I switch to the 94-95 style radiator and overflow.

Not the greatest pictures, but there is an angled piece at the top that prevents any air from going above the radiator, then the pieces on the sides prevent air from going around the sides. Measured of E stock gauge, I would always run around the A or L of NORMAL. I now run around the R after a 25 minute race and even O around ten minutes in.
