Argh! After my transmission gave out on my '96 GT, I decided to just have it rebuilt as it was the cheapest option. Still cost me more than I wanted to spend, and when I went to pick the damn thing up the mechanic let me know that the a**hole who put on the exhaust system didn't install in correctly and that I should tell them to fix it. The off road exhaust was put on by the former owner so out of luck there. THEN, as I was driving the money pit home from the shop the f'ng steering starting going out - I could hardly turn the wheel.

If this Mustang was a real horse I just might be forced to shoot it.

im sorry to hear that!!

luckily its still a mustang, and you have us to help! :)

the exhaust shouldnt be too big of a problem... even if you pay someone to do it.

cant turn the wheel? check your belt, your belt tensioner tensioner, and at worst case you're power steering pumpmight be on the fritz.

Didn't they quote you like $3000 to fix it?

Yeah, $3,400 to be exact. When I said no way and told them I was going to start looking for used they suddenly came around with a much better price - $2000. I know that's still a lot, but when I called around and got quotes for installation for used and for rebuilds in the Richmond area, that seems to be about average. The 2 grand comes with a 3 year warranty.

Thanks for the support, it's just a bit frustrating that I've owned this car since Feb and all I seem to do is sink money into it and never get to drive the *$?!% thing! And I think the most depressing thing is that if I had all the money I've put into since I got it, I could have bought a Cobra. :(

Anyway, I'm going to take car back to the transmission shop and have them look at it. Maybe I'll get lucky and they caused the issue with the steering.

3 year warantee is good peice of mind.

did they say what was wrong with the exhaust?

The guy stated that the way it was hung it was not in the channels correctly, and that I might hear loud bangs when driving. Something about the exhaust battering around the engine area. Sorry, most of what he was saying was just pissing me off and I really wasn't focusing. I don't think he was BS'ing, because his shop doesn't do exhaust.
