so as the title says i have a strange noise that's been plaguing this car since i've had it. When it rains out, and puddles form on the road and i catch one the slightest bit, there starts a grinding type sound from underneath the car around the trans area. you can feel it in the passenger floorboard, console, shifter, and ebrake lever... what could this be??

and to further state, it only does it for a short bit then goes away. and worsens with the application of throttle and goes away almost when you let off.

Just when it rains? Thats weird but what you described sounds like the e-brake bracket rubbing the driveshaft, Mine did that because the bracket BROKE off the car, so I just welded back but, but the more people in the car= more scraping noise.

Do these cars have a intermediate bearing on the drive shaft? If so, then I bet the seal is gone and that is making the noise. Water gets in making it grind and rub wrong. Little vibration from the added fluid and it washes out. But I cant remember if they added one to these.

yeah it's a 1 piece unit so no intermediate bearing to go out... i was going to check the ebrake cable and the u joints in the morning. and I'm tellin ya it is odd that it only does it when it rains. I dunno. maybe something to do with the water pushing the cable against the d/s. i'll be checking it out some more tomorrow. I just replaced the trans mount about a year ago when i did my trans too.

get it up in the air, inspect all bushings that are on the car they could be making some noise. you need to distinguish if the nois is wheel speed related, or engine related. when this happens and you can shut the car off and see if it changes, rev the engien up see if that changes, hit the brakes, or go to a different gear (load on eng and trans then changes) you need to try to eliminate different things prior to you guessing what the problem is
