and sound clip:

Clicking is not usually a t/o bearing noise--usually a faulty bearing will start with a metal to metal sound when the clutch is pushed in slightly--just enough to put slight pressure on the bearing. It is almost a whurring sound at the beginning but more of a grinding sound near the costly end.

This sounds exactly like my problem. So i would guess its the throwout bearing. :dunno:

Thanks bud. You did call it 1st

Sounds nasty regardless. I can still drive it, but sometimes the clutch padel gets kind of loose than its stiffens back up. Well, im glad its nothing serious. Well, i hope its nothing serious, but the smoking coming from under the car when i pulled over after downshifting was strange. Oh well, ill get someone to look @ her soon.

Now am i still looking @ an $500-600 install. If i buy a clutch kit.. does a new throwout bearing come packaged with it?

Thanks

my HD King Cobra Clutch came with a T/O bearing... I would look into spending the extra $52 on a Steel throwout bearing retainer, as the stock one is aluminum, and once it is grooved, you'll go through T/O Bearings left and right. it's WELL worth fixing now, and not worrying about it later.

I think all clutch kits come with a TO bearing... I bought a regular clutch for my car, stock specs... I think it was steel...

+1 Also, make sure you set the appropriate preload on the main bearing when installing the new retainer. Assorted shims can be had as part of various rebuild kits on eBay.
