Removal of cylinder head is not necessary to fix this problem properly. Just get the right tools and supplies and you will be fine.

That's what I was afraid of. Is it possible for me to add a few more threads while I'm in there or am I stuck with the wonderful 4 from the factory?

super common.

helicoil, timecert, etc. etc. kits are sold to repair it.

if you're not confident enough, take it to a head shop. they'll do the hole for $50.00 + parts (total = $150-200)

Mine wasn't the special plug setup. But there is an insert, and it seems to be working. IIRC it was about $30 for the kit. You got nothing to loose, it took like 15 minutes.

Yeah its not nessecary to remove the head to repair. i do it all the time u have to have a special ford kit to fix it correct though only reason being is the the difference is the stores heli coil thread goes from top to bottom. on the kits helicoils its half threaded, reason for that is to use a special punch that comes in the kit to lock the coil in place. suck to say though the problem gets caused only in two ways lack of service or the the spark plug tool used. since the late 90's tool companies like matco tools and snap on have created a special socket for the 2v and 4v, and now the new 9/16 3v long deep socket. these sockets keep the spark plug from slanting when being installed preventing the threads from being stripped. but trustm me if you dont have what u need I'd say just take it to a shop the most you should spend is 180 pend on labor rates. if you would have been able to bring to me it would have been 87 cuz of the kit i can finish it within hour trucks its a whole different ball game. Any who good luck though no need to worry about being a big job.

Thanks for all the responses guys!

I've checked out everything you guys mentioned, ran it by some car techy people I know and they all seem to be in agreeance that under boost (the overall plan for the car) that those inserts may or may not hold up. IMO that doesn't make me feel very confident. So within a few minutes of me posting my dilemma on my Ohio Mustangs wall (me and my buddy's FB group) one of our Mustang guru's threw an offer of $140 for either both or one head. Not really sure but I think he said both lol I'll find out tomorrow but I do believe there coming with cams too, and he said the valve covers are coming too. Pretty sweet deal if you ask me.

So now that my Grand Am is finished, I'll put it together tomorrow night after work, get it out of my garage, and roll my Mustang down the street out of my buddy Anthony's garage, and into my garage and me, possibly him, and my buddy Brian are gonna tear it all down and hopefully have new heads on it within a week since we all work at the stupid hours when most people are fixing there cars lol.

I'll let you guys know how it goes, and what other problems I run into with this car lol

Lol Belberius I need the intake manifold to mock it up properly, and at the rate things are breaking... Man it's gonna be a MINUTE before I get the kit! But I guess I could throw it (metaphorically speaking of course.. That bastard's heavy!) on the block and say oooh baby! Lol

Now you get the idea lmao, but it won't piss him off, he'll just laugh about it. Something he said many months ago, and it carries on today haha
