STANG IS SHUTTING OFF

hey guys got a 94 5.0 auto my problem is that whenever the car is in park and when i drop the gear to drive rpm goes way to low and sometimes even shuts off ...same thing when im in drive and the car is completely stopped and i put it in reverse rpm goes to low and sometimes shuts off . does anybody have any clue why this is happening???????.. and honestly the damn thing does not feel like a 5.0 it feels like more like a 3.5 lol please som 1 help me out thanks guys..

BTW battery and ALT are brand new so i know that couldnt be it

Sorry but do you meant it stalls or is there like a power failure?
And if so does it re-start straight away?

stalls and ya it does start right away perfectly fine

do you have any mods to the motor?
when was the last time it was tuned up?
maf and iac cleaned?
have you pulled codes?
what is the timing set to?
have you done a base idle reset?

^^ no mods on it all stock but exhaust 2.5 all around flowmasters dumped and no cats the only thing i did was change the plugs to motorcraft coppers plugs where ok never cleaned the maf and have no clue what a IAC is have no idea wat the time is on the damn thing and i never did a base idle reset on it

I have heard that a vacuum leak may cause this type of thing as well.

Vacuum leak? Timing could be off too. If it just started though it sounds more like a vacuum leak.

I agree with vacuum leak, especially if you are losing power.

How new are your plugs/cap/rotor? It might not be the problem but something I would reccomed you check.

My car does this but it only when cold, but i have a cam so thats my excuse.

I have heard that a vacuum leak may cause this type of thing as well.

It did on my 4.6 manual but it was more of a surgy idle untill one of the vacuum lines got a large hole in it then it would shut off easily.


How does the car act in park/neutral?

in park and Neutral its fine and this does this in hot and cold weather also.. so i have no idea i really do think its a vacuum leak will see this week ..im in chicago it dropped 22 inches of snow and its below zero everything is just a pain in the ass and my damn bro got his notch in the garage so i cant do this by myself cuz its just to damn cold so i need to go to a shop

BTW guys what should the timing be set at and i mean like PERFECT i use 87 octane gas 93 is way to much over here so forget that..

It depends on YOUR car.
I'm running 12* and can get away with 87 octane. others can get 13* or even 14*.
Set the timing to 12* and get it up to temp and do a couple of hard pulls and see if it pings.
If no pinging then set it up another degree and repeat until you hear the pinging then set it back a half a degree or so.
14* is going to be about max on the sn 5.0's. Foxes can get away with 16* for some reason.

hey akaslick15 im having the same problem so whenever you find out whats wrong please post. does your cars battery level drop as well? and having a loss of power?
