95 gt, steering rack leaking, need to know what to replace it with.

Already ruled out any Autozone or similar replacement. Currently debating between picking up a new AGR rack (715583 specifically) for $275 or picking up a used 03/04 Cobra rack for less. My research shows that we cant get new one from Ford but how are they remans they sell? Any feedback on the two choices?

Not hard at all actually. This is the guy I got my rack from. Mine has been in the car for over 10k miles now, no problems at all. He's got several of those in stock, so you can actually call him, and work out a deal. I got mine for 170 shipped.

Make sure that you identify the rack properly. This is how to do it.

So no feedback on the AGR rack from Summit? Claims quicker ratio and thats enticing.

The rack that AGR sells as "quick ratio rack" actually has the same ratio as all of the other Mustang power steering racks. Don't fall into the hype.

What are the benefits of going to an 03/04 cobra rack?

Slightly less assisted steering due to different valving inside. That's it really. I've got one in my car, and it's a bit nicer than stock. For around 160 dollars, which is what I've paid for mine, it wasn't a bad upgrade.

so hold on, all it does is it makes the steering wheel harder to turn and that's a good upgrade for $160?

Basically. It gives better steering feel and feedback. I believe MM used to sell steering pumps that gave less assistance for the same reason. From the factory our steering is pretty numb/light.

Thank you. This is exactly the information i was looking for in regards to the AGR. Looks like its time to shop for cobra racks.

Nope just had to unscrew the fittings and re-attach them. The lines were hitting the factory k member where the motor mounts attach. May not be an issue at all if you have a modular motor car. The routing of the one line was completely different even though the end attachment points are in the same spot.

ah gotcha.

just FYI any machine shop can make a custom hose. For my terminator swap we had to get a custom P/S hose made from a 1996 and a 2004 merged together. So if you need one fabbed up, dont hesitate to do it. It was only like, $25.00

It was just one of the hard lines on the exterior of the rack so swapped it easily for free which is the best price of all.
