Stock fan question

When I first bought the car, the people who owned it before just had the fan sort of stuck in there, and not hooked up correctly.

The fan shorted out and stopped working, so that was an immediate expense. Got a new stock fan, and the mechanic (dad wanted a shop to do it at the time) took power off the coil so the fan would be on when the car was on, but ran the power to some relay (I am not the most knowledgable on relays, etc.) and then to the fan.

My question is can our fan handle a 12V source constantly or does it need to be resisted down. I already have an idea of how to wire it if so.

The fan's stock relay tells it to kick on when the car gets to temperature x or when the a/c is on. In florida, it would be on all the time anyways.

If someone could answer this for me so I can fix it in the morning I would appreciate it.

Thanks.

I wired mine to bypass the CCRM. 10 Guage wire is a must for the power and ground. I hooked mine up to a 30 amp bosche relay mounted near the battery. I ran keyed power thru a switch (mounted on the wheel tilt lever) to control the relay.

But in Houston I pretty much keep it on all the time.

Im not too familiar with new edge cars... They probably have their own fan relay in the underhood fuse compartment. In that case, all you would have to do is tap into that harness and bypass the computers ability to give the fan relay ground.

Hope it helps.
