Hey Paul, does that ring true for any build with OEM type roller lifters?
I've
"heard" of folks making them live reasonably at up to ~6100 rpms, which is probably fine in a drag car... but I'd be a little worried about valve float and overall valve control myself. I'm sure you'd get a million different opinions on that, but there's mine. Maybe I'm too conservative.
FWIW, the original 331 in my old road racecar was a 12.5 to 1 compression solid roller 7400 rpm race motor. It lasted an entire season of racing before it finally did the normal "block split" right up the front of the block where the timing cover bolts in, then down the valley. At that point, a couple of main caps let go and it was total carnage. The former owner showed me pictures of the damage... it was pretty gnarly. That motor probably only made a little over 400 to the tires, but that much RPM in endurance road racing events eventually split the block. Again, RPM did it, not power.
Paul.
