Stubborn front brakes

Im in the middle of a cobra brake conversion but I cant seem to get my current front rotors off. It doesnt have any retaining washers on the suds, or any other thing i can see that is preventing the rotor to come off. BTW i noticed one the ends of one of the wheel studs is paited yellow and i was wondering what that was. any info you can give me thats not in my haynes book o' wisdom would be great. Thanks

Could be a couple of things.

1. Factory used locking washers to hold the rotors in place during the assembly. They are located around the studs, check for those. To remove them, pry them off the rotor with a screw driver, and rip them off using plyers.

2. Could be that the rotor is rusted to the hub. It happens. In this case, take a big hammer, and hit the back of the rotor in several spots. It will come loose eventually.

To get my rear ones off (without the lockwashers) I just beat the heck out of it with a hammer.

After several hours of wacking away at the discs, I gave up for a couple hrs and found this link that had both RUSTED rotors off in 10 minutes. Hope this helps anyone else. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mtsTJCRljAs

I just took a 15lb sledge hammer and it knocked the rotors off in one blow...

Yep, a heavier hammer would make it easier. This certainly is no job for framing hammer.

i had this problem last night when i put my new brakes on,

just spray the insides of the lugs with wd and let it sit/soak, and use a normal hammer and tap around the lugs then use a rubber and hit the inside/outsides of the rotor in a circle and it will eventually give..

funny how i only had this trouble on my front rotors, not my rears..
