Re: T-5's suck.

I had the T5 in my 95 rebuilt and never had a problem with it! in fact it shifted so smoothly after the rebuild! I had a mac short shift and a ford racing clutch and that thing still shifted like melting butter!

Re: T-5's suck.

that 2nd Pic was the Pressure plate i am pretty sure. The only reason my T5 gave out was due to a bad Pilot bearing. There not a bad tranny you just can't abuse the hell out of them. I Picked up a Completely rebuilt T5 with all new internals for $615 shipped to my door.

Re: T-5's suck.

Well, the transmission's at the transmission shop, we're getting bearings today, the clutch is in the mail, and I ordered a MGW shifter yesterday.. I can't wait!! It's going to be nice having it shift through every gear without grinding and not having the shifter rattle like crazy. Thanks for all the input guys, and I really don't hate T-5's that much, just hate the way mine was working. Oh, and i'm used to my old 93' dodge that had the original tranny with 280,000 miles on it.. That was a great pickup.

Oh, and yeah, the second picture was the pressure plate. The flywheel looks nearly identical though.

Re: T-5's Rebuilt. (Update 8-3-10)

Ok guys, I got my transmission back (took forever) and i'm assuming Royal Purple Synchromax will work, but it seems a lot of you guys are using synchromesh. Any suggestions? Also, do I need to put grease on the input shaft? Thanks guys.

put a very light coat of grease on the input shaft. not to much tho. some people use syncromesh but i prefer not to waste money on it and i just use ATF (dextron/mercon) its alot cheaper. make sure you have the drain plug tight and remove the fill plug, pour the fluid down the shifter hole until it runs out of the fill hole. let it completely drain any extra out befor putting the fill plug back

Alright, sounds about right. And while i'm asking questions STILL, is there any reason why the bellhousing wouldn't let the transmission slide the last .5 inch in? I have it all in, it just stops where the bearing retainer goes in the bellhousing. It's ticking me off.. i'm soo close.

Re: T-5's suck. (Slight Update)

its probably just not getting pushed in all the way. Once mine got to that point, I just started all 4 bolts by hand while the trans was supported by a jack and drove them in with an air socket. Not the most reasonable way to get that last 1/2 inch but that pulled the trans all the way in with no issues. Once it was pulled it all the way I torqued it down and was on my way.

Re: T-5's suck. (Slight Update)

haha yeah, kinda jank but my dad who's a mechanic did it soooo I assumed it was safe. I'd play around with it more though wiggling it up and down.

Edit: When you got the trans rebuilt, do you know if they replaced the input shaft or not? When I got mine rebuilt, the trans shop (who are supposed to build legit race trans') Put the fox body length t-5 input shaft in my trans, therefore it wouldnt go in some small amount because the 94-95 input shafts are slightly shorter than then fox body input shafts

No, they replaced it with the right one lol.. I watched them build the whole thing, start to finish. The guy did order the wrong one at first though.. that wasted a bunch of time. I've shaken the thing around enough, I think i'm going to slowly pull it in with the bolts, with a wrench though. No impact for me haha.

Re: T-5's suck. (Slight Update)

dont use a wrench you will break the ear of the transmission off

my tko is the same way, the trans is a mother to get into the pilot bearing. kicks my @ss everytime. just keep working at it. usually having someone pry on the clutch fork as your moving the trans in helps. it should drop in all the way without forcing it

Re: T-5's suck. (Slight Update)

Well, sorry modo, I pulled it in with a wrench really slowly. I made sure I didn't use much pressure. Hopefully everything's fine in there. Too bad when I was torquing the bolts down the bolt stripped out the bellhousing threads... We tapped it out to the next bigger size and I'm really hoping everything works out. If not, i'm taking it to someone else to fix, i'm tired of trying to get this to work. Seems everytime I try to fix something on this car something else breaks. I'll have another update this afternoon once everything gets hooked up.

Ok, everything is hooked up now. I started her up and now she's making a whirring noise when I let off of the clutch pedal. I'm assuming this is the throwout bearing, but I don't know how to make it stop. Or will it just do that for a little while? Could it be that my clutch cable needs adjusted? It's an adjustable one... Need help soon guys, i'd like her on the road tonight!! Thanks for everything so far.
