Getting ready to do some exhaust awesomness for my car and I have NO opinions about anything. I really just don't know much about exhaust. My car is obviously a 4.6l '96. So in your opinion whats the best setup for my car? Mufflers? Headers? Catback? X-pipe? H-pipe? Tailpipes? Videos of different types of exhaust would be nice, as well as pictures of different tailpipes (just please label what everything is specifically otherwise I'll be very lost). Any and all information you can provide about exhaust would be great! I'm gonna have help with this, but I wanna have an opinion about what I should put on my car and what I like the sound of. I do have to put tailpipes on my car with the new exhaust, so I'd love to see which ones look the best with SN95s. Thanks for any info you can give me!

well what kind of sound do you like? old muscle car sound? deep rumble? raspy?

I like the old muscle car/hot rod type sound. I like really choppy, loud type exhaust. Not bad choppy, but like lopey I guess you could say. And loud.

I would say stick to chambered muffler like Borla, Mac, Flowmaster and the like if you want that old school muscle car sound. If you want a more race-car sound magnapacks, slp loudmouths 1, or striaght through muffler type sound will produce this. I searched youtube/streetfire for the sound I wanted.

I've got an off-road x-pipe and dumped SLP LM1's. They are EXTREMELY loud. And mine seem to have a very large baffle once i let off the gas at high rpm's which i love.
I dont have my own video, but this is about at close as it gets: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7zlYGfQmA-c

However, for the hot-rod/old muscle car sound, i'd get a chambered muffler, an O/R h-pipe, and probably long tubes.

if you want the classic muscle car sound, definitely offroad H-pipe with flowmasters. imo x-pipe and flows are way too raspy.

I kinda liked my flows & x-pipe. They just weren't loud enough for me.
Here's a video for reference liz:

If you want a choppy muscle car sound I would say off road H pipe with a chambered muffler like a flowmaster 40

Wish I had some better videos of it but it sounds amazing...

I would 100% recommend an OR H pipe and some Borla XS mufflers. It will be really deep and old school sounding

I like my catted x and magnapacks but it doesn't give that old school sound. Like everyone else. If you want that old school sound get an H-pipe. I won't tell you what catback or muffler to get but H pipe will be a good start.

Bassani lt headers, MAC ProChamber, Borla XR-1 MultiCore (NOT SPORTSMAN) mufflers. Look it up. That;s the ultimate set up. Then go get you yourself re-tuned on the dtno!

if you don't want it too loud (or care about the environment), get a catted version of what ever mid pipe you choose. it will sound almost identical, just a little bit more quiet. although, catalytic converters have been known to produce drone on some set ups.

it will all come down to personal preference for you, youtube videos won't do any car justice, so go out to the track and car meets and talk to people about what they have, and listen to the car. I can almost guarantee that you'll like whichever one you get though. if I were in your shoes and had the cash, I'd do a full system, headers, mid pipe, and cat back.

but no exhaust will get you the sound you're looking for without throwing some cams into the motor. I personally think it is the biggest factor of a car sounding good, at idle anyways. an added bonus of getting cams would be that you'd have some bite to go along with your new found bark!

Thank yall so much for the info! I really like LOUD! I think I'm liking the h-pipe so far. Whats the difference between off-road and just regular mid pipe? If it's not off-road, it's catted right? What if I get a mid pipe that bolts up to stock manifolds, but later get shorty headers, will the mid pipe still bolt up to them?
