Yep!!!! Loved that car. Did the escort gt twin cam head swap that was fully ported. Upgraded turbo, custom exhaust from front to back, pieced together a bigger fuel system, and drive the hell put of it!!!!!

That car would scare the hell put of people when I’d smash it in first gear and it would torque steer all over the place!!!! [emoji23]

Those cars had insane torque steer. Almost had the wheel ripped out of my hands a few time. I just when bigger turbo, bigger pump and straight pipe kicked out before the rear tire.

IHI turbo who made those turbos is 30 minutes from my house. A friend of mines dad is an engineer there. Brought me home a nice upgrade for free lol

It’s not a car that got a lot of love but to be honest it’s one of my favorite cars I’ve ever owned. It was just an absolute blast to drive. I just wish the aftermarket world would of showed it some love.

We all learn from our mistakes that don't kill us.

I did my first engine build on a budget when I was 18 years old in 1990. For my '66 Mustang GT fastback, I wanted more power of course. I bought the Edelbrock RPM cam, intake, and carb. (All new for under $400) Heads were out of my budget and I didn't want to modify the factory heads because a factory GT should one day go back to original, so I bought a set of junkyard heads, got a valve job, new valves, and Edelbrock springs to match the cam. I did a mild bowl porting and gasket matched them.

The machine shop wanted too much money for my taste to drill and tap for screw-in studs so I made a jig for my drill press to do it myself. This is where it went south, but I didn't realize it until the motor was going together. At least 1/2 the studs had poor alignment. I tweaked the rocker alignment the best I could.

The mods were absolutely awesome at first. While I never got the car on the track to know exactly how fast it was, it was the fastest thing I had ever been in at the time and it was my pride and joy.

The first pushrod broke about 500 hundred miles later. The second, not much longer. Before long as the valve guides wore, I was replacing push rods as almost as frequently as I put gas in the car. I always had everything with me to do the job at any given time and could change a push rod and rocker if necessary in about 15 minutes and a 100 swear words as I burnt my fingers on the hot engine.

Breaking push rods never slowed me down. I still went on road trips for 100s of miles and probably put close to 10,000 miles on the car this way. I probably went through 30-50 broken pushrods before I finally had enough money for the Edelbrock Performer RPM heads.

That sounds like the old days with the Boss 302's. Some of the racers that ran those things would actually run 1 size under on the pushrods or a known weaker brand so whenever they over revved em (which was easy to do with just a lil work) they would just bend a pushrod and not break something really bad, like dropping a valve or knocking a hole in a piston.. sorta like a fuse... The top fuel guys used to do the same thing. A pushrod is a lot cheaper than grenadine an entire engine!!

Blew a wheel cylinder on my single pot master cylinder brakes on my 66 Satellite with a built 383. I was downtown Fort Worth at the time, in traffic - pedal went straight to the floor. Quick downshifted the Torqueflight auto and by using engine braking and going back and forth between the emergency brake pedal and the hand brake release under the dash got it home in one undented piece. First thing I did was pick the seat cover out of my butt. Next day I got a boneyard master and proportioning valve out of boneyard 67 Satellite, the first year they had a dual master cylinder, and swapped them in.

I put a 67 satellite together for some one
The engine was toast
Ended up rebuilding it
Lesson learned if you don't change your oil
Bad things happen to the engine
Just a kid that was learning had no idea what the car could do or be worthy

Bought the car with a worn out 361. Built a nice 383 that got me in the low 13s with a 727 auto and 3.23 gears.

I had to explain to some oldsters that putting 10W40 in a late model car that calls for 0-W20 year round like they did in the summer in the 60s was a mistake. I had a customer come in who had the "change oil" light on and want me to put two quarts of oil in so it didn't blow up between our store and the shop. I showed her the dipstick was up to the full line and had to convince her that 1) adding 2 quarts of oil would be a bad thing, not a good thing, and 2) if the change oil light came on but not the oil pressure light since she had plenty of oil and she would be fine driving the five miles to Jiffy Lube.

Why do I read every @MustangChris post in Chris Rock's voice...

Everybody hates MustangChris

Grey market Mercedes was stuck on I35 in the middle of Nowheresville, Texas with steam coming out of the hood. I pulled over to see if I could help. It was a split upper radiator hose. Luckily, it split just behind a hose clamp. The driver had no idea what to do. I grabbed my hunting knife, cut off the bad end, and put the hose back on the radiator. It was now too short and the fan was going to hit it. I grabbed some wire and wired that sucker up out of the way. I had a 44 oz. Big Gulp I had just bought, and between that and what the dude had in his car we replaced enough fluid to get him to the next exit.

strange person shows up in the middle of nowhere with a hunting knife and a wire... ...and this story has a happy ending?

also, thank you. I have an old roadside emergency kit. I have used practically everything in it minus the zip ties, duct tape, and spoil of wire. For 20 years I’ve wondered why a pool of wire was included. Now I know.

Good guess! My first care ever was a 76 Aspen with a 225 slant six and 4-speed overdrive trans. When I could afford toys I started with the Satellite. Had a pair of 64 1/2 Dart GTs with 273s, one hardtop and one convertible. 79 Little Red Express truck. 80 Omni with the DeTomaso package. Dakota pickup. Ordered a second gen Ram 1500 Laramie SLT extended cab with a 5-speed. Toy car before the Mustang was a 70 Road Runner 440+6 with a Tremec 5-speed, Edelbrock heads, factory Air Grabber.
