This is the Poonstang. She's a 04 V6 vert. While she looks pretty darn good right now, ive got some plans to make her even more btchin'. The first thing I did was trim the antenna. I measured the height I wanted, and then I cut it off. Some people will put on a ball of epoxy to make it look stock. After it dried i painted it black (guaranteed to add at LEAST 5hp) and put it back on. but thats all pretty self explanatory. My first mod with some actual skill needed (I just say that to make my self feel better) was to add in a garage door opener switch.

You'll need wire strippers, a solderer, wire cutters and a drill of some sort (We used a drill press) First youll need to pull apart your opener and find the switch. Measure out your length of wire needed and strip one end. Using the solder, tin the ends of the wire. this will provide better contact and make it easier to solder if your switch was as small as mine. Then just solder to the switch.

Now, the next step is all up to you. this isnt necessary, I just did it to keep the remote safe. Trim the case to fit the wires on each side and then run the wire out a side hole.

Next, you'll want to drill a hole for your switch. MAKE SURE IT IS A MOMENTARY SWITCH so it will work. Mark your spot and srill away. I used a drill press and drilled a pilot hole first to make it easier.

Now is also the time to learn from my mistakes. Drill FROM THE BACK. Other wise youll end up with...
232323232_fp543<5>nu%3D4473>269>634>WSNRCG%3D359379%3A793349nu0mrj

Trimmed up..
232323232_fp73474>nu%3D4473>269>634>WSNRCG%3D359379%3A794349nu0mrj

Then install your switch and solder it in.

232323232_fp54393>nu%3D4473>269>634>WSNRCG%3D359379%3A795349nu0mrj

I ran my wiring over the top back of the glove box, up under and through the bottom of where the center console starts on the passenger side and up from behind. This allows for easy battery changes.

Next just install it and you've got a sweet garage door opener (adds at LEAST 12-15hp) Also works like the old Mazda comercials; tell chicks its nitrous and when they press it just slam the gas and act like your trying to turn it off :D

There will be MUCH more with this build to come: exhaust, exterior, minor engine work and some btch'n diy stuff!

Welcome. Nice to see you have plenty of enthusiasm for your ride. Don't see too many mustangs that still have the door-ding, bumper-guard, strip, thing either.

Edit: I can see his pics fine

Welcome! I really like the garage door clicker idea.....I just can't solder that small. Lol. Did cutting your antenna shorter alter the radio strength, it should have.

The reason you tine the wires first is so that when you go to solder it to the switch, just put the wire on the switch, heat it up, and the tin already on it will flow off and solder it together, so no extra tin is needed. Also, I haven't had any trouble what so ever with the radio and I've heard of people completely unscrewing their antenna and driving around and still having perfect reception. I'd try that first just to see if you think it will really effect you or not.

Bad reception is probably the best case scenario you could hope for, really you better hope you do not burn out the tuner on your radio with the shortened antenna. An antenna is not just a random length piece of metal. It is a VERY specificly tuned piece where almost everything from the length to if the base is grounded matters. As I said above one day more then likely your radio will stop working and need repaired/replaced. understand that if it does happen and you replace it there is a good chance it will happen again.

i shortened my antenna the same way he did and i didn't notice any difference in signal strength

I had no change at all actually. When I got the car it was already bent/broken further up, so i just trimmed it rather than buy a $20 one that is the exact same. And if it is specificly tuned, it's now custom tuned ;)

So i've got some questions about an exhaust system. It's going to be my next project and I have decided (roughly) on MAC Long Tube headers. From there I need help haha. I live in AZ and we have to have emmisions. I can get away with high flow cats and what not but i need help with a shorty mid pipe that is catted. After I install the headers is everything from the headers back the same as a GT? Does it have to be v6 specific or is that part then a part i can put on even though it was made for a gt? Cause I thought about putting on the LT's, then a shorty catted mid, then the catback off a stock GT and then just switching the mufflers later. Will this work? Bassicly i need LT's with cats that ends in duals. How can i acomplish this? Sorry if i made it confusing.

i'm not gonna try to decifer that cause it just confused the shit out of me lol. but to try to answer your question, pretty much any catback/midpipe will bolt up to v6 specific headers. it might take a little intuition for the hangar placements and such, but it's worth it. if you want an o/r pipe, you could also just swap out your mid pipe for a catted one before inspection. if i were in your shoes (as i was about a month ago lol) i would just skip the headers altogether. you won't notice a huge difference in a v6. i will be keeping my stock headers, and using a mac o/r h pipe, and a mac catback. with the catback, i don't think you'll have to worry about anything really because if i'm not mistake (someone correct me if i'm wrong) the hangars for the tailpipes and rest of the catback are all the same for 98-04 models. hope i could help.

This answered it exactly haha. Thanks for deciphering that. I've seen people go both ways saying that the headers dont (and do) make a difference. Im still pretty wishy washy about the whole thing and the more i think about it the more ill probably stick with the stock header (the 1st original plan haha) because the people who say lt's do make a difference say it makes it a bit deeper and a "bit" doesnt sound worth $300. So if I leave the stock v6 headers on, any aftermarket midpipe should fit?

any after market mid pipe will fit, yes, but that doesn't mean that it will bolt right up. the mid pipes that are designed specifically for a v6 will, but one made for a gt will need some modification done by a shop to fit properly. personally, i'd just get an o/r pipe and swap the stock exhaust back in once a year. it's worth it to me for better sound.
here's a video of the exhaust setup i described. sounds amazing to me, especially for a v6.

Now that I think about it, I would only need the cats if I was to have the LT's cause I would have to have some form of cats with lt's to avoid changing out the systems once a year. The more I think about it the more I like the idea of stock headers with an x.. (cheaper too!)
