i was thinking of getting a supercharger but im not sure b/c i keep getting mixed opinions from everyone about it. ive been told the car couldnt handle it. but others said it will be fine as long as i dont run a lot of boost. i was thinking of running just 6-8 psi. would that be ok?? i want to go with vortech b/c i keep hearing good thinkgs about them but im still not sure what brand. any opinions?? would my car handle it? i keep getting told that with the mods i have the car wont handle a supercharger.

uh..correct me if im wrong someone...but you have forged internals...so you should be better off and able to run more boost.

You would be just fine running that type of boost. You would be surprised what these motors can handle.

It's all about tuninig my friend. It most cases it's detonation that causes engine failure not boost. Make sure you keep your air charge cool, your timing back and stay out of lean conditions. Good set of head gaskets help to. Do all that and you can run even more boost. I've seen 12-14 lbs with a similar set up. I have also seen people blow up with 6 lbs cause they don't properly tune for there set up.

Bad tuners are what give power adders a bad name.

1) the car can handle the power just fine...they say the stock 5.0 block can handle up to 500 hp as a safe level. I have a friend with a foxbody...stock engine, stock internals (I think its a 1990) with a 70mm turbo, and he was running about 18psi at the track, and the motor is healthy and still going.

2) If you want to stay with a manual tranny, a tremmec / TKO would work awesome. If you want to go Auto, I would go with a built 4R70W...but then that requires alot more $$ than a TKO

3) The S-Trim would work beautiful on your car, and if you are still looking to get one, give us a call or shoot me a PM...we Deal with Vortech and I can get you one at a good price....too low to post ;) lol

You have a built motor. You can handle tons of boost. D-1 Procharger.

I have yet to see this being mentioned... FUEL SYSTEM!!!!

Sure the rotating assembly and block is good for X amounts of HP....but wont be if there isnt the proper fuel supply....

I dont care if any of you say stock fuel lines and rails are Ok. Maybe on the dyno, but put it on the street, and let it hang for longer than 10 seconds than your average dyno pull and you will cook shit faster then a set of Uncle Bens in the microwave....trust me Ive seen lots of this in my years....

judging by the original thread starters signature, you're set up there along with a blower is a good combo to make 450+rwhp...
use at least 42lb injectors, and matching mass air flow sensor....
have a look into the Professional Products fuel rails (they are cheaply priced and do the job), use an external regulator like the Aeromotive one thats 1:1 boost sensitive (it will add 1 pound of fuel per pound of boost it "sees"), larger fuel line from tank to the rails (-6an), and a minimum of a 255lph intank fuel pump (ie. Holley part number 12-915, its the higher pressure version than the regular 255lph)....

on the Igntion front, use an MSD 6BTM...I think almost every entry level Vortech SC-Trim and S-trim kits come with a BTM box....

Ive told this to many customers I dealt with over the years that considered a supercharger for their cars, esp ones that already had a stout heads/cam/intake package on their motors.....I know its extra money to spend...maybe close to $1000 +/- ,for every fuel system component listed above including the various AN fittings....but its cheap insurance compared to a rebuild that will cost you twice that if not more...........

for the transmission front....stock T5 will hold up, but its hit or miss and depends 100% on your driving style...I had a customer at the shop I worked at, with stock T5 in his full weight 94 GT ragtop, R302 blocked 331 stroker, custom cam, Vic Jr Heads, Vic 5.0 intake, Vortech S-trim that was pullied to the max with a Snow Performance meth kit, Centreforce DF clutch, STOCK T5, and Stock rear end save for 3.73 gears....on a 17inch MT Drag radial he went 11.60s @ around 125mph, driving like a granny (he walked it out of the hole and got into it)....

Like I said, Hit or miss....depends on how much you want to spend and how fast you want to go for the need to upgrade the transmission to a Tremec or G-Force.... and very importantly your personal driving style.....
IMO, if you're going to make over 600rwhp, then an Auto is a good stepup....some of these cars can get pretty violent to drive on the street...which then requires crazy expensive clutch setups like a McLeod Twin Disc or Spec Stage 5s etc etc...
I mean for the price of a heavy duty Tremec or T56, and the price of a clutch like a McLeod or even the Ram twin disc, its almost the same price for a well built AOD .......
