Thinking of hid's

Ok I've always wondered about going hid. I love the amount of light hid's put out. Now first let me ask what you guys think about hid kits you've installed? Any concerns? Secondly I'm curious as a chart I just read stated that the brightest light comes from stock Kelvin ratings of 4300 and 6000 kelvins coming in at a close second. If this is true why go hid?

Quite a rew members on here have HID's including my self.
They do produce quite a bit more light than stock.
4300 (I have) produces closer to a white lightwith a very slight blue and 6000 has a more bluish tint to them. The higher the # the bluer the tint and the more annoying to oncoming drivers.

Ive had HIDs on every car ive had, now I just cant drive at night with out them. Ive tried all the colors and 6000k is what you wanna go with for maximum brightness. The higher you go with the numbers the less bright it is, unless your going for that look. I have 6000k right now but im gonna go a lil bluer and try 8000k and see how they look. Also look to see what wattage the kit is. Usually 35w does the trick. They have some 55w kits that are brighter but run hotter in the housing. Personally Id stay away from the 55w kits 35w is plenty. Just my 2cents

I think I like the 6000's as they look very close to BMW hid's. My question is how is a highbeam handled? I have heard sone of them have a secondary non hid bulb that's is pretty shity? Also whose a good company to go through?

DDMtuning.com has hi/lo HID kits that are mechanical HID's so the high beam is still an HID. one of my friend has the HIDs with halogen hi beams and they are a joke. you can see more with the HID low beams. also DDM kits are lifetime warranty and thus far i havent really had any problems with them. i have ordered and installed 12 of their kits now

I have DDM kits for both headlights and fogs, i like em. The high/low kit for the headlights is pretty much a joke, doesn't really change much. You'd need aftermarket headlights if you wanted a separate bulb for the high beams as our stock headlights use the same bulb.

No there is no need to get slim ballasts. i have talked to the techs at DDM and they told me that the slim ballasts arent a durable as the regular style ballasts. plus they are only 3/8 of an inch slimmer than a regular ballast. our cars have more than enough room to fit regular ballasts in multiple places. So there is no need to get a inferior product for more money that you dont need. just stick with the regulars. and get 35w. there is no need for 55w on the street. 35w is way brighter than factory anyway

I have the Hi/lo kit in my headlights from DDM and they make a huge difference when i flip my high beams on. They raise the beam of light and project way farther. has come in major handy when playing in the twistys in the mountains with not much other light

I used VVME for my headlights and haven't had any issue with them at all. I have DDM for my fogs.

Fogs: Amber Fogs 4300k

94SVTturbo, a huge difference? Come on... yes it moves the beam up a little, yeah it might help you see a little further but it's not an enormous difference. Unless you know something I don't, they're already plenty bright even on low beams.

They seem just like my factory halogens but in HID form. When I turn my high beams on the beam of light moves and up and projects much farther out. But that's Just my experience in my car driving in the woods in my area

Projectors are so much nicer

True. but it will also be brighter. which may get you into trouble with the po-po. not sure. but people will prolly think your brights are on

Yeah but i doubt it'll matter as I'll be getting the 6000k kit in 55w which will only have the tiniest hint of blue to it I'll just tell them that they are sylvania silver star ultras.

If you just get a cheap setup yeah. If you get them then upgrade to a nice Jag or infiniti projector and run a HID you will tell a good difference in Projector vs a OEM Headlamp. If you have a nice clear set of OEM Headlamps gt or Cobra and combine with a nice bulb it will function fine.

Ge Nighthawk & Phillips Vision Plus are some of the best ones to put in a stock housing with the 9007 Bulb.
