timing chain

What kind of timing chain did you guys buy. Will a stock replacement chain from autozone work or should I order a new gears and chain from an aftermark company, Very mild combo if it matters.

I got an FRPP replacement for mine, originally i got another brand one but after bolting it down there was still tons of play in the gear so i exchanged it for a sure fit.

I got a 87-93 for my 95. The 94/95 don't look anything like the regular one when I first opened my 92LX.

Fox one was much thicker and fit the 94/95 perfectly.

maybe you were comparing a single to double roller?

i'm with the guys above, cloyes is a good one. the frpp double roller works good too.

So i should buy the one from the 93 cuz its a double roller. the one cloyes one at work for my car is just a single roller, or will that be fine?

No..get a double roller. Much much stronger..

I actually replaced a timing chain from one from pep boys...and I never buy parts from pep boys.

It was a melling double roller chain with both gears for like $20..

Looked EXACTLY like the ford one I took off.

The timing chain used in 87-93 is factory double roller design.. the 94-95 is called a "silent chain" style, and is much more expensive.
I just got done pricing the two for my stock engine.. the 3pc combo runs about the same through ford ($75 my cost), but the parts
stores house brand, around 27bux for double roller, and over 75 for the silent type. And the double roller is a lot stronger..
The factory silent chain on my orig. engine became so stretched that my car would not hold a set degree of timing, and there
is 1/2" of play in the chain... double roller FTW

When I rebuilt my 302 in my 92 it had a double roller.

When I did a H/C/I swap on my 95 and pulled the cover off I was like "wtf is this pos?" lol

I had never seen that kind of chain before..

I was wondering what that was...learn something new everyday.

Double roller, for the few extra dollars and the benefits on strength and adjustments, its well worth it.
